Switching from Scrunch to Essentras

Thinking about moving off Scrunch? Here is exactly what the move involves, what carries over, and what does not.

Essentras Editorial Team/Reviewed 4 Oct 2026/63 vendor pricing pages checked/How we compared

Yes, you can leave. Nothing migrates and there is no integration to rebuild unless you wired Scrunch into Sitecore's CMS. The real constraint is Scrunch's required 30 days' written notice before your subscription term ends. What survives is whatever you exported yourself: no exit-export process is published, so pull your data out first.

Talk through your move

No obligation, and no pitch until you have seen what the replacement actually costs.

Why companies move off Scrunch

These are the reasons buyers give, not reasons we would like them to have. Scrunch is a good fit for a specific case, stated further down.

New owner, new roadmap

In June 2026, Sitecore acquired Scrunch and folded it into the SitecoreAI suite. If your team is not on Sitecore's CMS, there is no published commitment covering future roadmap, pricing or support decisions under new ownership.

A brand already in transition

Scrunch's old domain, scrunchai.com, now redirects permanently to scrunch.com, the kind of change that tends to accompany an acquisition. A brand and domain shift mid-contract is a reasonable trigger for support and continuity concerns on its own.

Hard caps on usage

Starter is capped at 350 custom prompts and 3 seats; Growth caps out at 700 prompts and 5 seats. Outgrow either one and the next step is a $25 per seat, per month add-on, a forced plan upgrade, or a sales conversation, not open self-serve scaling.

Opaque enterprise pricing

Once a team exceeds Growth's limits, the only path up is Enterprise, and Enterprise is quote-only with no published ceiling. Scrunch's own pricing FAQ frames approaching a limit as the start of a sales conversation, not a transparent self-serve overage rate.

The five phases of moving off Scrunch

At minimum, 30 days from the date you send written notice to the end of Scrunch's current subscription term, per its Terms of Service. That figure covers account closure only, not the time needed to get a replacement source of external signal live, which should start the same day, running in parallel.

  1. 1

    Export what you can

    Day 1

Before sending any notice, pull out what is yours: custom prompts, personas, competitor sets and page-audit history. Scrunch publishes no exit-export process for this data, so treat anything not saved now as gone once the account closes.

  2. 2

    Send 30 days' written notice

    Day 1

Scrunch's Terms of Service require commercial accounts to give at least 30 days' written notice before the end of the current subscription term. That notice, not the day you stop logging in, is what actually starts the clock on when the account ends.

  3. 3

    Start the replacement in parallel

    Week 1 to 4

Do not wait out the notice period before doing anything else. Get real placements live now: once published, an article lives on the outlet's own domain, not on any vendor's platform, so it stays unaffected by whichever vendor you are paying. That closes the visibility gap while Scrunch's cancellation plays out in the background.

  4. 4

    Disconnect any Sitecore pipe

    Week 2 to 4

If your team wired Scrunch's visibility data into Sitecore's Content Management, Content Marketing or Digital Asset Management tools, unplug that connection before the account closes. Standalone Scrunch customers have nothing technical to unwind here at all.

  5. 5

    Confirm closure and check billing

    Day 30 onward

Confirm the account actually closed on the date the notice specified. If you were on annual billing, no refund or proration policy for unused months is published, so raise that directly with Scrunch's billing team if it applies to you.

What you keep, and what you do not

Carries over

  • Every prompt, persona and competitor set you configured in Scrunch is yours to take; none of it is proprietary to the platform.
  • Any edits you made to your own site from Scrunch's page audits stay live; they were never Scrunch's to revoke.
  • If your organisation runs on Sitecore, Sitecore itself is untouched; only the Scrunch-specific data pipe into it ends.
  • The underlying question, how your brand shows up across AI answer engines, is still answerable elsewhere; Essentras publishes its own live measured corpus of real answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Grok at /ai-check, as a diagnostic.

Does not carry over

  • Scrunch's historical visibility scores and citation-analysis dashboards: no exit-export process is published, so anything not saved before cancellation is likely gone.
  • The Agent Experience Platform's machine-readable layer serving your site to AI crawlers stops the day the account closes.
  • Recurring, per-prompt, per-persona monitoring across 5 or more engines: that specific cadence is Scrunch's product, and it does not continue on its own.
  • Self-serve, published pricing above the Growth tier: Scrunch's Enterprise step is quote-only, with no ceiling published anywhere.

Contract note. Terms of Service: for commercial users, Scrunch (or the customer) may terminate "for any reason, with at least 30 days' notice prior to the end of your current subscription term"; non-commercial accounts can cancel anytime. No minimum contract term is stated on the pricing page itself. Annual billing is framed as a 17% discount ("2 months free") versus month-to-month, implying annual customers prepay the year; no refund/proration policy for early cancellation is published. Additional seats are $25/mo on any plan; Starter is capped at +5 seats. Source: scrunch.com/pricing and scrunch.com's Terms of Service (page had no dedicated FAQ on cancellation).

Best forMid-market to enterprise marketing/SEO/content teams that want a self-serve, in-house analytics platform for tracking brand visibility across AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude) and for publishing machine-readable content to AI crawlers, particularly organizations already standardized on Sitecore's CMS/DAM stack, where the 2026 acquisition gives native plumbing between visibility data and content publishing.Teams that already know where they are missing from AI answers and want the placements, Wikipedia and Knowledge Panel work done rather than charted.

When Scrunch is the better buy

If a team already has in-house content/SEO capacity and specifically wants recurring, prompt-level monitoring across 5+ LLMs with competitive benchmarking and citation analysis, plus a way to continuously publish agent-readable versions of its own pages at scale, Scrunch's AXP is a real, defensible choice, and for an enterprise already standardized on SitecoreAI, the post-acquisition integration (visibility data flowing straight into CMS/DAM/Content Marketing tools with no separate integration project) is a genuine, software-native advantage Essentras does not attempt to replicate. Scrunch is the right pick for a team buying a monitoring-and-publishing system, not an execution partner.

Measured, not asserted

The numbers behind this page

Every comparison on this site rests on two things we recompute rather than claim: the live catalog of what we actually sell, and a running study of what answer engines actually say. Both are linked below so you can check them.

Corpus figures recomputed 5 October 2026. Catalog figures are live.

How we compared

Contract and pricing details were read off Scrunch's own published terms and pricing pages on 4 October 2026. Where a term is not published, this page says so instead of describing one.

  • 01Is the price published on the vendor's own pricing page today, or does learning it require a demo call? Profound, and the Enterprise tier of almost every other vendor here, is quote-only.
  • 02How many AI engines are covered on the cheapest tier you can actually buy, and what the rest cost as add-ons. Peec caps self-serve at 3 of 6 models; Otterly's base tiers cover 4 and charge separately for Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude.
  • 03How many prompts or credits the plan includes per period, what an extra block costs, and how many user seats are included before per-seat fees apply. Semrush and Ahrefs ship one seat and charge $40 to $100/mo for each additional user.
  • 04Exit terms in writing: monthly cancellation versus a prepaid annual term, the notice window before auto-renewal, and whether unused time is refunded. Peec, Otterly, Writesonic and HubSpot all state that prepaid fees are not refunded.
  • 05Whether the product changes anything outside your own domain, or only reports on it. Measurement tells you a competitor was cited instead; it does not place the article, build the entity, or fix the review profile that caused it.

Deliberately excluded. Anything a sales representative said on a call, and anything reported in a single review without a document behind it.

Essentras sells services in this category, so this page is not a neutral review. Every competitor figure is published list pricing you can check on the vendor's own site, and the case for choosing a competitor over us is stated on every entry rather than left out.

FAQ

Switching from Scrunch, FAQ

How much notice do I actually have to give Scrunch?▾

Commercial accounts must give Scrunch at least 30 days' written notice before the end of the current subscription term, per its Terms of Service. Non-commercial accounts can cancel at any time. No minimum contract term is stated on the pricing page itself, so that 30-day clause is the real constraint governing when the account actually closes.

Will I get a refund for the rest of my annual plan?▾

Scrunch's published terms include no refund or proration policy for early termination. Annual billing is framed as a 17% discount against month-to-month, which in practice means the year is paid upfront. Nothing in the pricing page or Terms of Service guarantees money back for unused months, so raise that directly with Scrunch's billing team.

Can I export my historical prompt and citation data before I leave?▾

No public documentation describes how a customer exports historical prompt or citation data on exit. Treat that as unconfirmed rather than assumed, and pull dashboards, personas, prompts and audit results out manually while the account is still active, well before the 30-day notice period runs its course.

Is there an integration to unwind?▾

Only if you connected Scrunch's output into Sitecore's Content Management, Content Marketing or Digital Asset Management tools under the post-acquisition integration. If you were running Scrunch as a standalone platform, there is nothing technical to rebuild or disconnect elsewhere, since Scrunch is a measurement and publishing tool, not a system wired through the rest of your stack.

What happens to the machine-readable layer Scrunch served to AI crawlers?▾

The Agent Experience Platform's machine-readable layer, the version of your site Scrunch serves to AI crawlers and agents, is part of the subscription. It stops the day the account closes. If it was doing real work for how agents read your site, that function needs a replacement plan starting day 1; it does not continue for free after cancellation.

Should I wait for the notice period to end before starting something new?▾

No. The 30-day notice governs billing and when the account formally ends, not when you are allowed to start something new. The stronger approach is to begin the real replacement work, placements that land on a publisher's own domain rather than a dashboard, while Scrunch's notice period is still running, so there is no gap in external visibility.

Is there a genuine reason to stay with Scrunch instead?▾

Yes. If your team already runs in-house content and SEO work and wants recurring, prompt-level monitoring across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude with competitive benchmarking, Scrunch's Agent Experience Platform is a real, defensible system. For a team already standardised on Sitecore's CMS, the post-acquisition integration into SitecoreAI's content tools is a genuine advantage this page does not attempt to replace. Leaving only makes sense once monitoring alone has stopped producing the external result you need.
