AI visibility tools / Head to head
Essentras vs Profound
One sells you the measurement. One sells you the intervention. Here is which you need.
Pick Profound if you already run PR, content and entity work in-house or through an agency and just need the deepest, widest AI-engine monitoring money can buy. Pick Essentras if you need the underlying facts about your brand to actually change, through placements, Wikipedia and Knowledge Panel work, not just a better dashboard reporting the facts as they stand.
Essentras
Earned-media and entity execution with its own measured corpus of AI answers, priced per item rather than per seat.
Profound
Enterprise AI-answer-engine monitoring platform tracking brand visibility, citations, and prompt volume across up to 9 AI engines, plus workflow agents that draft content for human approval.
Why choose Essentras?
Choose Essentras when the gap in your AI visibility is upstream of measurement: the models have nothing good to cite because the placements, the Wikipedia page or the Knowledge Panel simply do not exist yet. Profound will tell you that gap exists in detail; it will not close it. Essentras runs its own measured corpus at /ai-check and then sells past the dashboard into the placements and entity work that change what the next measurement shows.
The destination is named before you pay
You pick the outlet from the catalog, see its price, turnaround and link policy, and receive that URL. No blind retainer, no placeholder list.
We publish how we measure
The /ai-check corpus is real answers from six models, updated and open to read. The method is checkable rather than a proprietary score.
You can buy one unit
No seats, no prompt allowance, no annual prepay and no notice window. One placement is a complete purchase with nothing to cancel.

The decision, in three lines
Pick Essentras if
Pick Essentras when you need something to actually change, a named publication to run your story, a Wikipedia page to exist, a Knowledge Panel to appear, and you want to see the price and the outlet before you commit.
Pick Profound if
Pick Profound when you already have a PR, content and entity-management function in place and need the broadest, most detailed read on how up to 9 AI engines currently describe your brand, with SSO, SOC 2 and API access for a security-conscious buying committee.
When Profound is the better buy
An enterprise brand or agency that already has its own content, PR and entity-management muscle and just needs best-in-class, continuously-updated measurement, exact prompt volumes, sentiment and citation tracking across the widest set of answer engines, SOC 2/SSO for a security-conscious buying committee, and API access to pipe the data into its own BI stack, should genuinely pick Profound. Its workflow agents (FactCheck, Context Manager) also give a large marketing org a way to keep brand facts current across many SKUs/markets at a scale a smaller earned-media engagement isn't built to monitor.
Measured, not asserted
The numbers behind this page
Every comparison on this site rests on two things we recompute rather than claim: the live catalog of what we actually sell, and a running study of what answer engines actually say. Both are linked below so you can check them.
Corpus figures recomputed 5 October 2026. Catalog figures are live.
How we compared
Both sides were compared on the same 12 dimensions, using published list pricing read off each vendor's own site on 4 October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the cell says so rather than carrying an estimate.
- 01Is the price published on the vendor's own pricing page today, or does learning it require a demo call? Profound, and the Enterprise tier of almost every other vendor here, is quote-only.
- 02How many AI engines are covered on the cheapest tier you can actually buy, and what the rest cost as add-ons. Peec caps self-serve at 3 of 6 models; Otterly's base tiers cover 4 and charge separately for Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude.
- 03How many prompts or credits the plan includes per period, what an extra block costs, and how many user seats are included before per-seat fees apply. Semrush and Ahrefs ship one seat and charge $40 to $100/mo for each additional user.
- 04Exit terms in writing: monthly cancellation versus a prepaid annual term, the notice window before auto-renewal, and whether unused time is refunded. Peec, Otterly, Writesonic and HubSpot all state that prepaid fees are not refunded.
- 05Whether the product changes anything outside your own domain, or only reports on it. Measurement tells you a competitor was cited instead; it does not place the article, build the entity, or fix the review profile that caused it.
Deliberately excluded. Features neither side documents publicly, and any claim that rests only on a single review or a vendor's own case study.
Essentras sells services in this category, so this page is not a neutral review. Every competitor figure is published list pricing you can check on the vendor's own site, and the case for choosing a competitor over us is stated on every entry rather than left out.
FAQ
Essentras vs Profound, FAQ
Is Profound a direct substitute for Essentras?▾
No. Profound measures how AI engines currently describe a brand and drafts agent-written content for a human to approve, across up to 9 engines at its Enterprise tier. It does not secure third-party publication placements, build a Wikipedia page or work a Google Knowledge Panel. Essentras does that execution work directly, and separately runs its own measured corpus at /ai-check. A buyer on Profound still needs a PR or entity-work motion elsewhere to act on what the dashboard shows.
What does Profound cost?▾
As of 2026-10-04, Profound publishes only two things: a free 7-day trial (50 AI Marketer prompts a day, 3 engines tracked) and a custom Enterprise quote. No self-serve monthly price is listed on its own pricing page. Historical self-serve tiers reported in 2026 blog coverage are no longer shown live and should be treated as stale, not current.
Does Essentras guarantee a placement, a ranking or an AI citation?▾
No. Essentras does not guarantee a search ranking or an AI citation, because nobody can. What it guarantees before payment is the outlet, its price, its turnaround and its dofollow or nofollow link policy, and a confirmed URL once the placement runs.
Can Essentras file regulated financial disclosure for a public company?▾
No. Essentras is not a newswire. A public company filing material news needs a recognised disclosure wire such as Business Wire, PR Newswire or GlobeNewswire. Essentras sells placements and entity work, not regulated disclosure distribution.
Does a Profound placement or a Profound-drafted article count as earned media?▾
A Profound workflow agent drafts content for human approval; it is not itself a placement on a third-party outlet. Essentras is explicit that its own placements are paid, not earned, press: a paid placement is described as exactly that, never dressed up as editorial independence.
Which one has a lower minimum commitment?▾
Essentras publishes per-outlet pricing with no stated minimum spend or lock-in beyond the order itself. Profound's Enterprise agreements run on an annual term with auto-renewal, requiring 30 days' written notice before a renewal date to stop the next term, per its own Master Subscription Agreement.
Is Profound better reviewed than Essentras?▾
Profound holds a 4.5/5 G2 rating across 1,130-plus reviews and a 3.7/5 Trustpilot rating as of late September 2026; it has no listed Capterra reviews. No comparable third-party rating figures for Essentras are available in this record, so a direct numeric comparison cannot be made here.
