Best Journalist Request Platforms and PR Software of 2026
What each platform costs, what it locks you into, and what you hold when the subscription lapses.
Source of Sources is the best free option. Qwoted at $149 a month and Featured from $29 a month billed annually buy pitch volume. Prowly and Meltwater sell databases and monitoring. Prezly sells a newsroom. All price attempts, not results. Essentras prices the placement: named outlet, confirmed URL.
Why choose Essentras?
Essentras does not sell pitch access. You pick a publication from a catalogue that shows its price, turnaround and link policy before you pay, and the deliverable is a confirmed URL on that outlet. The cost attaches to the placement, not to a month of seat access.
The outlet is named before you pay
You pick the publication from the catalogue and see it before the order is placed. No shared query pool decides where your quote ends up.
The link policy is stated per outlet
Each listing shows dofollow or nofollow next to price and turnaround. You know before purchase, not after the article goes live.
No seat, no term, no renewal date
One placement is a valid order. There is no minimum, no retainer, no notice period and nothing that auto-renews in 12 months.

Published list pricing, checked 4 October 2026 on each vendor's own site. Vendors change pricing and add-ons without notice, and quote-only vendors negotiate per deal, so confirm at the source before you buy. Anything we could not verify is marked, not estimated.
The buyer here wants one thing they can forward to a boss, a client or an investor: a live article on a named outlet. This category sells access instead, a queue of reporter queries, a contact database, a seat, priced per month or on an annual contract they cannot price before the sales call. Outcome risk sits entirely with the buyer, because the vendor is paid for the period whether or not a single story runs. The fear is renewal day: 12 months of fees, several hundred pitches sent, nothing publishable to show, a fear that sharpened after Cision shut HARO down in December 2024 and the free query feed scattered across new owners. No vendor in this set controls a publication, which is why none of them will quote a price for a named outlet, and why the honest limit on our own side is that a bought placement is a paid placement, not a journalist's independent pick.
How we compared
9 providers were scored against the same criteria, on published list pricing read off each vendor's own site on 4 October 2026. 63 vendor pricing pages were checked across this cluster.
- 01Is every tier priced in public, including the largest one, or does the top plan route to a sales call?
- 02Can you know which outlet will publish before you pay, or only after a journalist picks your pitch?
- 03What renewal day looks like: minimum term, notice period, and whether fees already paid are refundable.
- 04Whether cost scales with attempts or with results, and what you have bought in a month where nothing publishes.
- 05Whether the link policy, dofollow or nofollow, is stated before purchase or left entirely to each publisher.
Deliberately excluded. Resellers of providers already listed, services not taking new customers at the time of review, and anything whose core promise would require breaking a platform's terms of service.
Essentras sells services in this category, so this page is not a neutral review. Every competitor figure is published list pricing you can check on the vendor's own site, and the case for choosing a competitor over us is stated on every entry rather than left out.

The numbers behind this page
Every comparison on this site rests on two things we recompute rather than claim: the live catalog of what we actually sell, and a running study of what answer engines actually say. Both are linked below so you can check them.

FAQ
Journalist Request Platforms and PR Software, FAQ
What is the best HARO alternative in 2026?▾
There is no single successor. Source of Sources is Peter Shankman's free relaunch of the original format: up to 3 query emails a day, no paid tier at all. Connectively, now owned by Featured, carries HARO queries from a free plan up to $99 a month. Qwoted runs its own request marketplace at $149 a month on Pro. All three sell pitching attempts, not published articles.
How much does PR software cost?▾
Published rates run from $19 a month (Connectively Lite) to $499 a month (Prowly Business, billed annually). Featured lists $29 to $239 a month on annual billing. Prezly is €100 to €250 a month. Qwoted Pro is $149 a month, or $99 if you prepay $1,188 for the year. Meltwater publishes nothing: every tier routes to Contact Sales, and its own pricing page states a 12-month minimum.
Is HARO still free?▾
HARO itself is free again. Cision shut it down on 9 December 2024 and sold it to Featured, which relaunched it in April 2025 as a free daily email reaching a stated 150,000 registered sources. The paid part is the software built around it. Connectively, also owned by Featured, charges $19 to $99 a month, with a free tier capped at 3 answers and 1 bylined article a month.
Why is Meltwater pricing quote-only?▾
Meltwater's pricing page says it uses tailored pricing rather than a list, and every tier from Starter through Agency routes to Contact Sales. The same page states most partnerships run on annual agreements with a 12-month minimum. Its general terms add that contracts auto-renew for a further term of the same length unless either side gives 60 days' written notice, and that invoiced fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable.
Do journalist request platforms guarantee a placement?▾
No. Connectively's terms of service state that it does not warrant answers will be published, or published in a timely manner. Qwoted sells a pitch quota, 35 a month on Pro, into requests every other subscriber can answer. One Featured reviewer reported 1 selection from 48 answers. On Source of Sources the reply lands in a single reporter's inbox. The fee buys attempts; the publisher decides the rest.
How hard is it to cancel a PR software contract?▾
Read the notice clause before you sign. Meltwater requires written non-renewal notice at least 60 days before the term ends, or the agreement rolls into another full term. Prezly needs 30 days on annual plans and 5 on monthly ones. Connectively needs 30 days. Prowly cancellations only take effect at the end of the paid term. Meltwater, Prowly, Prezly, Connectively and Qwoted all state that fees already paid are non-refundable.
Do HARO-style mentions give dofollow backlinks?▾
None of these platforms publishes a link policy you can rely on before paying. Connectively puts link type and Domain Authority visibility behind its $49 a month Pro tier. Prowly and Featured publish no policy at all. On Qwoted it is governed by each publication rather than by the platform. Whether a mention carries a followed link is decided by the outlet that runs it, after the fact.
