Essentras in Cursor

Cursor reads MCP servers from an mcp.json file, so Essentras connects with 1 entry and a url. The server at https://essentras.com/api/mcp needs no account, no API key and no OAuth. Ask the agent for outlets, a basket price or a free check. Cursor shows each tool call, and you open the checkout link yourself.

Quick start

  1. Open the file

    Create ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json in 1 project.

  2. Paste the entry

    Add the entry below to mcpServers and save.

  3. Check Customize

    Open Customize in the sidebar and make sure Essentras is on.

  4. Ask and approve

    Cursor asks for approval before using MCP tools by default. Click the arrow next to a tool name to see its arguments.

Common workflows

Price a basket in the editor

Ask the agent for outlets that fit a country, budget and link policy. It calls search_outlets and quote_placements and lists line items and the total. Open the checkout_url to review and pay.

Plan before buying

Plan Mode can use MCP tools too. Ask it to compare 3 outlets with get_outlet and propose a basket, then approve the plan and quote it. The checkout_url is the handoff.

Free check before buying

Describe a review or a removal request. Cursor asks before running the checker, then reports the verdict and the official route. A check buys and reserves nothing.

Tips for success

  • Ask for a tool by name, such as search_outlets, or describe the goal.
  • Open the Output panel with Cmd+Shift+U or Ctrl+Shift+U and pick MCP Logs for connection errors.
  • Toggle Essentras off in Customize to cut tool clutter without deleting the entry.
  • The entry holds no secret, so a project file is safe to commit.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need OAuth or headers?▾

No. Cursor supports OAuth and headers for servers that need them, but Essentras is public and takes neither. A bare url entry is enough, and Cursor lists the tools under Available Tools once the server is on. Nothing in the file is secret.

Which transport does Cursor use?▾

Cursor supports stdio, SSE and Streamable HTTP. Essentras is a stateless Streamable HTTP server that speaks MCP protocol versions 2026-07-28, 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26 and 2024-11-05, so a url entry in mcp.json is the right shape for it. No command, header or key is needed.

Can Cursor buy a placement?▾

No. quote_placements returns a checkout_url. You open it, review the basket and total, and authorize payment yourself. The card is charged when the order is placed, and the order is refunded if the placement is not published or the turnaround is missed.

Can my team share it?▾

Yes. Commit .cursor/mcp.json to the repo and everyone who opens the project gets Essentras and its 8 tools, with no keys to share. Team admins can also distribute servers under Dashboard, Plugins & MCPs, where they appear in Customize next to personal and workspace servers.

Troubleshooting

Essentras is not listed

Check that mcp.json is valid JSON with an mcpServers object, then open Customize and look for the toggle. Disabled servers do not load.

The team blocks the server

Ask an enterprise admin to add a URL entry for https://essentras.com/api/mcp to the MCP Allowlist.

Error 429 or rate_limited

Essentras allows 120 MCP requests per IP per minute. Wait about 60 seconds, then ask again.
