Essentras in Gemini CLI

Gemini CLI connects to Essentras through the mcpServers object in settings.json. Use httpUrl for https://essentras.com/api/mcp, because Gemini CLI reads url as an SSE address. Essentras needs no account, no API key and no OAuth. Gemini searches outlets, prices a basket and runs checkers, then gives you a checkout link to open and pay.

Quick start

Add the server
Run the command below. The default scope is project, and -s user saves it for every folder.
Check it
Run gemini mcp list, or type /mcp in a session to see CONNECTED and the tools.
Ask and confirm
Gemini asks before each call: Proceed once, Always allow this tool, Always allow this server or Cancel.

Common workflows

Budget search to checkout

Name a goal, a country and a price cap. Gemini calls search_outlets, then quote_placements, and prints line items, any volume discount and the checkout_url. Open the link, review the basket and pay.

REST with no config

If you decline a settings change, ask Gemini to run curl against https://essentras.com/api/agent/v1. The REST calls need no setup and return the same quote and checkout_url.

Check a case

Describe a review or a removal request. Gemini calls the checker with fixed choices and reports the verdict and the rule behind it. Any matching service price comes after the free route.

Tips for success

Tools appear as mcp_essentras_search_outlets and so on. Keep server names free of underscores.
Leave trust at false. It bypasses every confirmation for the server.
Use includeTools to expose only some tools, such as search_outlets and quote_placements.
Run gemini --debug for verbose output, and press F12 for the debug console.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use url or httpUrl?▾

Use httpUrl. In Gemini CLI, httpUrl selects the Streamable HTTP transport and url selects SSE. Essentras serves Streamable HTTP, so an entry with url does not match it. The --transport http flag of gemini mcp add also selects Streamable HTTP, so either works.

I moved to Antigravity CLI. Does Essentras work there?▾

Antigravity CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json, or .agents/mcp_config.json in a project, under mcpServers. Its docs say the legacy url and httpUrl fields are not supported. Use serverUrl with https://essentras.com/api/mcp, then type /mcp to open the manager. Essentras needs no sign in there either.

Can Gemini CLI pay for a placement?▾

No. quote_placements returns a checkout_url. You open it, review the basket and total, and authorize payment yourself. The card is charged when the order is placed, and the order is refunded if the placement is not published or the turnaround is missed.

Does Gemini CLI need OAuth for Essentras?▾

No. Gemini CLI starts an OAuth flow when a server answers 401 Unauthorized, and that flow needs a local browser. Essentras is public and asks for no credentials, so no browser step is involved and there is no token to store.

Troubleshooting

Essentras shows DISCONNECTED in /mcp

Check that you used httpUrl, not url, and that the URL is exactly https://essentras.com/api/mcp. Run gemini mcp list for the error detail.

No error appears at startup

Gemini CLI keeps background MCP connection errors silent by default and shows 1 hint. Run /mcp list or gemini mcp list.

Error 429 or rate_limited

Essentras allows 120 MCP requests per IP per minute. Wait about 60 seconds, then ask again.
