Semrush vs Ahrefs Brand Radar
Two measurement dashboards, two different prompt allowances, and an honest read on what each one tracks.
Pick Ahrefs Brand Radar if you already pay for Ahrefs and want AI-mention tracking as an added tab, at the lower published entry price. Pick Semrush if you need wider daily prompt volume, 50 to 200 a day, bundled with full SEO monitoring, and you accept paying more to get it.
Semrush
All-in-one SEO suite (rank tracking, site audits, backlinks, competitor research) now folding AI-answer-visibility (prompt) tracking into its core plans; became an Adobe subsidiary in April 2026.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
An AI-visibility tracking module bundled into every core Ahrefs SEO plan, also sold as a standalone product, that monitors how often and how favorably AI chatbots mention a brand.
Essentras
Earned-media and entity execution with its own measured corpus of AI answers, priced per item rather than per seat.
Why Semrush and Ahrefs Brand Radar buyers end up looking at a third option
Neither dashboard helps once the question stops being "how often do models mention us" and becomes "why don't they." Closing that gap means building the citable presence itself: press placements, a Wikipedia article, a Knowledge Panel, cleaned-up review profiles, which is what Essentras sells, priced per item, with its own live /ai-check corpus study as a free diagnostic. It cannot guarantee a citation or a ranking any more than Semrush or Ahrefs can, and it carries no enterprise seat model or dedicated account manager to match either platform's scale.
The destination is named before you pay
You pick the outlet from the catalog, see its price, turnaround and link policy, and receive that URL. No blind retainer, no placeholder list.
We publish how we measure
The /ai-check corpus is real answers from six models, updated and open to read. The method is checkable rather than a proprietary score.
You can buy one unit
No seats, no prompt allowance, no annual prepay and no notice window. One placement is a complete purchase with nothing to cancel.

The decision, in three lines
Pick Semrush if
Semrush is the right pick when you want a single login for rankings, backlinks, technical audits and AI-prompt tracking that scales up to 200 prompts a day, and you can accept that the Enterprise tier is quote-only rather than published.
Pick Ahrefs Brand Radar if
Ahrefs Brand Radar is the right pick when you already run Ahrefs for SEO and want AI-mention tracking bundled in at the lowest entry price, or when you want a standalone AI-only subscription instead of a full suite.
Pick Essentras if
Neither dashboard helps once the question stops being "how often do models mention us" and becomes "why don't they." Closing that gap means building the citable presence itself: press placements, a Wikipedia article, a Knowledge Panel, cleaned-up review profiles, which is what Essentras sells, priced per item, with its own live /ai-check corpus study as a free diagnostic. It cannot guarantee a citation or a ranking any more than Semrush or Ahrefs can, and it carries no enterprise seat model or dedicated account manager to match either platform's scale.
Where Semrush genuinely wins
Semrush genuinely wins for a team that already has in-house SEO, content, or PR capacity and just needs one dashboard to track rankings, backlinks, technical site health, competitor moves, and AI-prompt visibility together, especially at scale (up to 40 sites, 5,000 keywords/day, 200 prompts/day on Advanced, or custom volume on Enterprise), with API access for building custom reporting on top. Agencies managing many client sites, or any in-house team that wants ongoing self-serve monitoring across traditional and AI search rather than an outsourced placement engagement, are honestly better served by Semrush's breadth and seat-based access model than by a service like Essentras.
Where Ahrefs Brand Radar genuinely wins
Ahrefs wins outright for any team that already needs a full-stack SEO platform (keyword rank tracking, backlinks, a very large web index) and simply wants AI-visibility monitoring as one more feature inside a tool they are already paying for, rather than a separate line item. For a technical in-house marketer who wants a live, self-serve AI Share-of-Voice number today, for $129-249/mo, with no sales call and no minimum term, Brand Radar is a genuinely better fit than commissioning outside earned-media work on a retainer - it is the right tool when the buyer's actual need is measurement and benchmarking, not changing what the models say.
Measured, not asserted
The numbers behind this page
Every comparison on this site rests on two things we recompute rather than claim: the live catalog of what we actually sell, and a running study of what answer engines actually say. Both are linked below so you can check them.
Corpus figures recomputed 5 October 2026. Catalog figures are live.
How we compared
Both sides were compared on the same 11 dimensions, using published list pricing read off each vendor's own site on 4 October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the cell says so rather than carrying an estimate.
- 01Is the price published on the vendor's own pricing page today, or does learning it require a demo call? Profound, and the Enterprise tier of almost every other vendor here, is quote-only.
- 02How many AI engines are covered on the cheapest tier you can actually buy, and what the rest cost as add-ons. Peec caps self-serve at 3 of 6 models; Otterly's base tiers cover 4 and charge separately for Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude.
- 03How many prompts or credits the plan includes per period, what an extra block costs, and how many user seats are included before per-seat fees apply. Semrush and Ahrefs ship one seat and charge $40 to $100/mo for each additional user.
- 04Exit terms in writing: monthly cancellation versus a prepaid annual term, the notice window before auto-renewal, and whether unused time is refunded. Peec, Otterly, Writesonic and HubSpot all state that prepaid fees are not refunded.
- 05Whether the product changes anything outside your own domain, or only reports on it. Measurement tells you a competitor was cited instead; it does not place the article, build the entity, or fix the review profile that caused it.
Deliberately excluded. Features neither side documents publicly, and any claim that rests only on a single review or a vendor's own case study.
Essentras sells services in this category, so this page is not a neutral review. Every competitor figure is published list pricing you can check on the vendor's own site, and the case for choosing a competitor over us is stated on every entry rather than left out.
FAQ
Semrush vs Ahrefs Brand Radar, FAQ
I already pay for Semrush or Ahrefs. Do I need a separate AI-visibility tool?▾
Not necessarily. Semrush adds AI-prompt tracking from its Starter plan up, $199 a month for 50 prompts tracked daily. Ahrefs bundles it into every core plan starting at Lite, $129 a month for 5 tracked prompts. If you already hold either subscription, check your tier before buying a third tool. The real question is whether 5 to 20 tracked prompts, the range across Ahrefs' main plans, is enough for your brand, not whether the feature exists.
What AI-prompt allowance does the cheapest plan from each vendor actually include?▾
Semrush's cheapest plan, SEO at $139 a month, has no daily AI-prompt tracking at all. That starts at Starter, $199 a month, with 50 prompts tracked daily. Ahrefs bundles Brand Radar into its cheapest plan, Lite at $129 a month, but with only 5 tracked prompts. So the lowest price that includes any AI tracking is Ahrefs at $129, and the largest volume at a comparable price is Semrush's 50 a day at $199.
Can I buy AI-mention tracking on its own, without the rest of the SEO suite?▾
Ahrefs sells a standalone product for exactly this, Brand Radar AI, from $199 a month, querying its stated 475 million-plus prompt database without a full Ahrefs seat. Semrush publishes no equivalent standalone AI-only product. Its AI-prompt tracking sits inside the same Starter, Pro+ and Advanced plans that also cover keyword and backlink tracking, so buying AI visibility from Semrush means paying for the full suite around it too.
What happens if I go over the prompts included in my plan?▾
Ahrefs sells add-on prompt packages on top of its core plans: Basic at $50 a month for 2,500 checks, Growth at $100 for 7,000, Scale at $250 for 25,000, plus roughly $0.01 to $0.02 per check beyond that. Semrush instead steps you up to a higher published tier with a larger daily allowance, 50, 100 or 200 prompts, rather than selling incremental usage packs. Its Enterprise tier, for custom volume, is quote-only.
Has either company changed ownership recently, and does that matter?▾
Semrush was acquired by Adobe in an all-cash deal that closed April 28, 2026, for roughly $1.9 billion. No pricing changes from Adobe have been reported as of this writing. Ahrefs does not publicly disclose a parent company or ownership structure, and no acquisition has been reported either. Neither fact should decide a purchase on its own, but a recent acquisition is worth watching for roadmap or pricing shifts.
What do reviewers complain about most for each product?▾
Semrush's Trustpilot score, 1.7 out of 5 across 1,407 reviews, is dominated by billing disputes: surprise renewals and refund requests declined outside its narrow 7-day, annual-only guarantee. Ahrefs sits at 2.2 out of 5 across 323 Trustpilot reviews, with recurring complaints about account suspensions for suspicious activity and a layered credit system reviewers call unpredictable. Both score well on Capterra, 4.6 and 4.7 out of 5, so the Trustpilot gap is specifically about billing and support, not core features.
If the tracking shows my brand is barely mentioned, does either vendor fix that for me?▾
No. Both are measurement dashboards: they report how often and how favourably AI models already mention a brand, and that reporting stops the moment the subscription lapses. Neither places a press mention, builds a Wikipedia page or cleans up a review profile, the kind of work that can change what a model has to draw on. Essentras does that execution work, priced per placement, though it can no more guarantee a citation than Semrush or Ahrefs can guarantee a ranking.
