Essentras vs Semrush

One measures AI and search visibility. The other builds it with paid placements.

Essentras Editorial Team/Reviewed 4 Oct 2026/63 vendor pricing pages checked/How we compared

Choose Semrush if your team already runs SEO and PR in-house and wants a single login for rankings, backlinks, technical audits and AI-prompt tracking. Choose Essentras if you need the underlying work done, not only watched: confirmed placements, Wikipedia, a Knowledge Panel, review remediation. Many buyers run both.

Essentras

Earned-media and entity execution with its own measured corpus of AI answers, priced per item rather than per seat.

PricePriced per item. Each outlet in the catalog shows its own price, turnaround and link policy before you pay. No subscription, no seat fees, no minimum.

Semrush

All-in-one SEO suite (rank tracking, site audits, backlinks, competitor research) now folding AI-answer-visibility (prompt) tracking into its core plans; became an Adobe subsidiary in April 2026.

Price$139/mo to $199-$299/mo

Why choose Essentras?

Essentras exists for the step after a dashboard tells you something is wrong: it sells the actual placements, Wikipedia entry, Knowledge Panel work and review remediation that change what language models and search engines see, with price, turnaround and link policy shown before you pay. It does not replace a monitoring tool. It is what you buy once you know, or suspect, you need visibility built rather than measured.

The destination is named before you pay

You pick the outlet from the catalog, see its price, turnaround and link policy, and receive that URL. No blind retainer, no placeholder list.

We publish how we measure

The /ai-check corpus is real answers from six models, updated and open to read. The method is checkable rather than a proprietary score.

You can buy one unit

No seats, no prompt allowance, no annual prepay and no notice window. One placement is a complete purchase with nothing to cancel.

Published list pricing, checked 4 October 2026 on each vendor's own site. Vendors change pricing and add-ons without notice, and quote-only vendors negotiate per deal, so confirm at the source before you buy. Anything we could not verify is marked, not estimated.

The decision, in three lines

Pick Essentras if

Pick Essentras when you already know, or want to find out from the /ai-check corpus, that your brand is missing from AI answers and search results, and you want individually priced placements, Wikipedia or Knowledge Panel work to close that gap, not another dashboard to watch it.

Pick Semrush if

Pick Semrush when you have in-house SEO, content or PR capacity and want a single subscription to track rankings, backlinks, technical health and AI-prompt visibility across many sites or clients, and can act on what the dashboard shows yourself.

When Semrush is the better buy

Semrush genuinely wins for a team that already has in-house SEO, content, or PR capacity and just needs one dashboard to track rankings, backlinks, technical site health, competitor moves, and AI-prompt visibility together, especially at scale (up to 40 sites, 5,000 keywords/day, 200 prompts/day on Advanced, or custom volume on Enterprise), with API access for building custom reporting on top. Agencies managing many client sites, or any in-house team that wants ongoing self-serve monitoring across traditional and AI search rather than an outsourced placement engagement, are honestly better served by Semrush's breadth and seat-based access model than by a service like Essentras.

Measured, not asserted

The numbers behind this page

Every comparison on this site rests on two things we recompute rather than claim: the live catalog of what we actually sell, and a running study of what answer engines actually say. Both are linked below so you can check them.

Corpus figures recomputed 5 October 2026. Catalog figures are live.

How we compared

Both sides were compared on the same 12 dimensions, using published list pricing read off each vendor's own site on 4 October 2026. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the cell says so rather than carrying an estimate.

  • 01Is the price published on the vendor's own pricing page today, or does learning it require a demo call? Profound, and the Enterprise tier of almost every other vendor here, is quote-only.
  • 02How many AI engines are covered on the cheapest tier you can actually buy, and what the rest cost as add-ons. Peec caps self-serve at 3 of 6 models; Otterly's base tiers cover 4 and charge separately for Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude.
  • 03How many prompts or credits the plan includes per period, what an extra block costs, and how many user seats are included before per-seat fees apply. Semrush and Ahrefs ship one seat and charge $40 to $100/mo for each additional user.
  • 04Exit terms in writing: monthly cancellation versus a prepaid annual term, the notice window before auto-renewal, and whether unused time is refunded. Peec, Otterly, Writesonic and HubSpot all state that prepaid fees are not refunded.
  • 05Whether the product changes anything outside your own domain, or only reports on it. Measurement tells you a competitor was cited instead; it does not place the article, build the entity, or fix the review profile that caused it.

Deliberately excluded. Features neither side documents publicly, and any claim that rests only on a single review or a vendor's own case study.

Essentras sells services in this category, so this page is not a neutral review. Every competitor figure is published list pricing you can check on the vendor's own site, and the case for choosing a competitor over us is stated on every entry rather than left out.

FAQ

Essentras vs Semrush, FAQ

Are Essentras and Semrush actually competitors?▾

Not directly. Semrush is a self-serve dashboard: a team logs in to track rankings, backlinks, technical site health and, on Starter and up, AI-prompt visibility, and acts on what it sees. Essentras does not offer that dashboard. It sells the placements, Wikipedia entries, Knowledge Panel work and review remediation that change the signals a dashboard would show. They get compared because both sit inside AI and search visibility, not because they do the same job.

How does Essentras's AI-visibility check compare with Semrush's AI-prompt tracking?▾

Semrush tracks a fixed number of prompts daily once you are on Starter ($199/mo) or above: 50 a day on Starter, 100 on Pro+, 200 on Advanced, custom volume on Enterprise. Essentras runs a different kind of study, a live corpus of real answers pulled from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Grok, published at /ai-check, used to diagnose where a brand is absent rather than to monitor a fixed prompt list over time.

How is Essentras priced compared with Semrush's plans?▾

Semrush publishes fixed monthly tiers: Free, SEO at $139/mo, Starter at $199/mo, Pro+ at $299/mo and Advanced at $549/mo, plus a quote-only Enterprise tier. Essentras does not sell a subscription. It prices each placement, Wikipedia entry or review-removal item individually, with price, turnaround and dofollow/nofollow policy shown per outlet before you pay. There is no single number to put side by side because the two are not the same kind of purchase.

Does either one guarantee a ranking or an AI citation?▾

No. Neither Essentras nor Semrush can promise that a specific page will rank or that a model like ChatGPT or Gemini will cite a given brand. Semrush measures and tracks what is already happening. Essentras does placement and entity work meant to influence those outcomes. Any vendor claiming a guaranteed ranking or guaranteed AI citation is overstating what any tool or service in this category can actually control.

What is the real cost of adding teammates on Semrush?▾

Every Semrush plan, from SEO through Advanced, ships with exactly 1 user seat. Each extra teammate costs an additional $45 to $100 a month depending on the tier, so a 2-person team commonly lands at $250 to $450 a month even on mid-tier plans. This per-seat add-on is the cost driver most reviewers flag, more than any technical barrier to leaving.

What happens if I cancel Semrush partway through a term?▾

Monthly billing can be cancelled anytime with no term commitment. Annual billing is prepaid upfront, and the only refund path is a one-time 7-day money-back window on an initial 12-month-plus annual purchase paid by credit card directly on semrush.com. Outside that window, cancelling stops the next renewal but does not refund prepaid or unused fees, and Enterprise customers operate under a separately negotiated agreement instead.

Who is each one actually built for?▾

Semrush is built for marketing teams and agencies that already have in-house SEO, content or PR capacity and want a single login to monitor rankings, backlinks, technical health and AI-prompt visibility across many sites or clients. Essentras is built for a brand that already knows, or wants to find out, where it is missing from publications, Wikipedia, a Knowledge Panel or AI answers, and wants that gap closed through individually priced placements rather than watched from a dashboard.
