First, understand Yelp’s Recommendation Software.
Before you try to remove anything, know this: Yelp runs an automated system that decides which reviews are “recommended” and shown by default. The rest are hidden behind a “not currently recommended” link and don’t count toward your star rating. It is not removal, you cannot manually move a review in or out of it, and it applies the same way to every business.
That means some reviews you dislike are already filtered out of your rating, and some you’d want gone are recommended and visible. Removal through the guideline process is a separate track, for reviews that actually break Yelp’s rules.

Open the review, use the three-dot menu, choose Report Review, and select the specific guideline. A precise, evidenced report beats a vague complaint.

For a defamatory false-fact review, a solicitor letter or a court order against the reviewer is the route, since Yelp will not act on a factual dispute alone.

Can I sue over a fake Yelp review?▾
You sue the reviewer, not Yelp. Section 230 shields the platform, and in Hassell v. Bird a court could not even compel Yelp to remove a review already found defamatory. With a strong case you can unmask an anonymous reviewer by subpoena and pursue a defamation claim against them.
