Yelp for business owners

How to remove your business from Yelp (and what Yelp will not delete)

The short answer

You cannot delete your business from Yelp. Yelp says business information is typically a matter of public record, so it does not remove business pages on request. What you can do: mark the business closed, report a move or duplicate page, report an ineligible page, hide a home address, unclaim the page, and report reviews that break Yelp’s guidelines.

Key facts, checked on 18 Oct 2026

Yelp’s rule

Yelp does not delete business pages, even if you ask

Yelp’s answer is direct: "We don’t remove business pages from our site upon request." It says it publishes business information so consumers can share their experiences, and that the information is typically a matter of public record and public concern. It calls finding and sharing that information important "(and a legal right)" for consumers.

Why a business is on Yelp without asking

Anyone can add or suggest a business, and Yelp moderators check what they can verify. Claiming the page is free and gives you the owner’s tools; a claimed page does not mean you advertise with Yelp.

What Yelp does take off, or out of search

Closed businesses

Marked closed, shown less prominently, then removed from Yelp search results. The page stays reachable by link.

Ineligible businesses

Online-only, business-to-business, direct-selling and lead-generation pages are typically removed from Yelp search results once Yelp knows.

Lead-generator pages

Yelp says it removed 1,340 business pages linked to lead generators in 2025.

Duplicate pages

Yelp’s rule is 1 page per location, with a few exceptions.

Personal information

Yelp Support handles requests to delete personal information shown on a page.

Reviews that break the rules

Reviews that break the Content Guidelines can come down after a report.

Outside the U.S. and Canada

Outside the U.S. and Canada, Yelp offers no business phone or chat support, and no live help with adding, updating or claiming pages. Its Support Center still handles account closure, personal data deletion and content reports. The line on removal is the same: Yelp says it "generally" does not remove business pages.

Closed for good

Closing your business: mark the page closed, and it fades from Yelp search

Marking the business closed is the closest thing to removal that Yelp offers. Yelp verifies every closure first: it says it won’t mark a business as closed if it is still operating and able to receive customers.

Before you close: do these first

  • Reply to the reviews you want to answer. Yelp says that once the page is closed you can no longer reply to reviews or update the page.
  • Pause or cancel paid products: Billing, then Manage Your Products, then Pause or Cancel. Advertisers contact their Customer Success team.
  • Moving, renovating or changing owners? That is not a closure. Yelp’s closure article sends those cases to Customer Success at (855) 380-9357.
  • Want someone else to run the page? Add or transfer access instead of closing it.

How to mark your business permanently closed

  1. 01Open Biz InfoIn the Yelp for Business app, tap Biz Info in the bottom bar.
  2. 02Find the closure optionScroll down and tap Mark Business as Closed.
  3. 03Choose a permanent closureChoose Close Permanently.
  4. 04Add proofAdd details moderators can verify, such as a link to your closing notice on your website or social media.
  5. 05Send itTap Request Closure. Yelp verifies the closure before it marks the page closed.

On the Yelp for Business website: Business Information, then Manage extended closures, then follow the prompts. Not the owner? On yelp.com, open the page, click Suggest an edit, check Business Closed or Moved, add the proof in Additional Context and click Submit Changes.

What happens after

  • The page shows the business as closed, and it can link to a new location.
  • It is featured less prominently in Yelp search, then eventually removed from search results. Targeted searches keep it longer.
  • It stays reachable through the profiles of people who reviewed you and through direct links: Yelp says "we don’t delete business pages".
  • Your Yelp for Business access to that page ends. Other pages you manage are not affected.

Closed for a while instead

  • App: Biz Info, then Operation hours (or Upcoming special hours), then Mark Business as Closed. Turn on Close Temporarily, pick an "Opens again on" date, add details and tap Save.
  • Website: Business Information, then Edit under Hours of operation, then Mark my business as Closed and Temporarily Closed. Pick a "Closed Until" date, add details and click Save Changes.
  • To reopen: turn Close Temporarily off (or Reopen Now on the app home screen), or uncheck Mark my business as Closed and save.
  • Yelp says the page may appear lower in search while it is temporarily closed, and you keep full access to your account.

Yelp shows you closed, but you are open

Check for a "Moved to" or "Renovated" banner first, and remember that a red "Closed" can simply mean outside opening hours. If neither applies, open the page on yelp.com, click Suggest an edit, and add proof that you are open.

Big changes

Moved, renovated, renamed or sold: when Yelp opens a new page, and why reviews stay behind

Yelp updates a page when a change dramatically changes the customer experience, and its moderators look for outside confirmation, such as a notice on your website or social media, or a news article.

ChangeWhat Yelp usually doesReviews and photos
Move, where location and ambiance are central (for example a restaurant)Opens a new page and marks the old page as movedGenerally stay on the old page
Move by a retail or service business with the same experienceUpdates the existing pageStay on the same page
Major renovation that changes the experienceOpens a new page and marks the old page as renovatedGenerally stay on the old page
Minor renovationNo new page; tell customers in From the BusinessStay on the same page
New owner, same experienceThe old owner relinquishes access and the new owner claims the pageStay on the same page
Name change only, same experienceUsually updates the existing pageStay on the same page
Name change with a new owner, location or conceptMay open a new page and close the old oneNot stated by Yelp

How to report the change

  • On yelp.com: open the page, click Suggest an edit, check Business Closed or Moved if it applies, explain the change in Additional Context with a link, and click Submit Changes.
  • In the Yelp app: tap Suggest an edit (or the More Options icon), explain the change in Notes with a link, tap Done, then Submit.
  • For moves and other big changes, Yelp’s article says owners cannot suggest them from biz.yelp.com: use yelp.com, the Yelp app or the Yelp for Business app.
  • For a relocation, renovation or ownership change, Yelp’s closure article lists Customer Success at (855) 380-9357.

Selling the business

The seller relinquishes access so the buyer can claim the page. If the experience stays the same, the buyer can announce the change in From the Business. Plan replies to recent reviews before access changes hands.

Yelp’s own pages:Yelp: How do I report substantial business changes?Yelp: Guidelines for substantial business changes

Extra pages

Duplicate and ineligible pages: the 2 cases where Yelp drops a page

Duplicate pages

"A business location should be listed only once on Yelp." A food truck that moves around town can keep a single page, and each location of a chain gets its own.

  1. 1On yelp.com, open the duplicate page and click Edit.
  2. 2Check This is a duplicate of another business on Yelp at the bottom.
  3. 3Add your email if you are not logged in, and paste the link to the page that should stay.
  4. 4Click Submit Changes. On iPhone or Android: More Options (or the Overflow Menu), Edit Business, then say it is a duplicate in Notes, tap Done and Submit.

When more than 1 page is correct

  • Different service departments with distinct experiences, such as car sales and car repair.
  • A business inside another location, such as a restaurant in a hotel.
  • Individual providers, such as doctors, who usually have pages separate from their practice.

Yelp’s article does not say whether it merges or closes the extra page, or what happens to its reviews. Ask in your report which page should stay.

Ineligible businesses

Yelp is "mostly focused on traditional brick-and-mortar businesses and local service providers". It tries not to list:

  • E-commerce businesses
  • Businesses that primarily serve commercial customers
  • Direct-seller businesses
  • Lead-generation businesses
  • Other businesses Yelp believes are not a good fit for its community

Yelp says it typically removes ineligible business pages from its search results once it is made aware of them, and asks search engines like Google to do the same, "though they act on their own timetable". The page may still be reachable by its URL, or from photos and reviews that mention it.

Yelp’s "let us know" link for ineligible pages points to its report for substantial business changes: on yelp.com, Suggest an edit, explain which category applies in Additional Context, add proof, and submit (template 5).

Opening later? Yelp typically does not show businesses in search results that are not scheduled to open for more than 1 month.

Privacy

Home address or personal details on the page: hide the address or ask Yelp Support

Yelp says it avoids adding a home address to a business page unless the business owner specifically asks, and that residential addresses are discouraged unless the business wants them public.

Hide your address with a service area

  1. 1On biz.yelp.com, open Business Information and click Edit on Basic Information.
  2. 2In the Service Area section, choose Yes under "Do you service your customers at their location?".
  3. 3Enter up to 6 cities you serve and click Save Changes. In the app: Biz Info, Service Area, add cities, Next, then Save or Done.
  4. 4Businesses with a service area can hide their address from the public if customers cannot visit it.

Service areas depend on your business categories and are limited to a 50-mile radius or a 100-mile diameter between the 2 furthest points. For a larger area, Yelp asks you to contact its Support team.

Personal information shown on the page

Yelp does not remove business pages, but it says that if your personal information is shown on a Yelp page and you want it deleted, you should contact its Support team (template 6). Reviews that expose private details, such as someone’s home address, can also be reported under the Content Guidelines.

Reviews

Reviews: report the ones that break Yelp’s rules, and reply to the rest

Removing the business is not a way out of reviews: the page and its reviews stay. What you can do is report reviews that break the Content Guidelines, and answer the rest in public.

What Yelp says you can report

Conflict of interest

Reviews by current or former employees, competitors, peers, or the owner’s friends and family, or reviews someone was paid or incentivized to write.

Not the reviewer’s own experience

Someone else’s experience, a rebuttal of another review, a review of a different business, plagiarized text, or a review only about hours, offerings or policies. Reviews driven by extraordinary circumstances, such as media-fueled stories, count too.

Inappropriate content

Threats, hate speech, lewd commentary, or private information about employees or customers, such as a home address. Full names of professionals commonly known by name, such as doctors or lawyers, are allowed.

How to report a review as the owner

  1. 1On biz.yelp.com, open Reviews, click the 3-dot More Options button next to the review, then Report Review. In the app, tap More Options (or the Overflow Menu), then Report Review.
  2. 2Pick the guideline and give the specific evidence Yelp asks for, such as proof of a conflict of interest. You may need to claim the page first.
  3. 3Yelp says evaluation "may take several days". It emails the result, and tells the reviewer if the review is removed. On the website, hover over the flag icon to see the status.

What usually stays

Yelp says it "generally allow[s] users to stand behind what they write" and does not take sides in factual disputes. Strong language is allowed, and reporting a review "doesn’t guarantee it will be removed".

Recommended or not: the automated filter

Yelp’s recommendation software decides which reviews show by default. In 2025, 70% of reviews were recommended and 17% were not. Reviews that are not recommended do not count toward the star rating or review count, Yelp says the software is entirely automated and treats advertisers and non-advertisers the same, and a review can move between the 2 at any time. It is not removal: those reviews stay visible behind a link.

Reply instead

Claimed owners can Respond in public, send a Direct message, or both. Yelp recommends starting with a public response, and you need an approved profile photo and business account name to reply.

What gets a business in trouble

  • Asking anyone for reviews: Yelp says its software may not recommend reviews that seem requested.
  • Offering freebies, discounts or payment for reviews, or for removing them.
  • Pressuring, paying, bullying or suing people to change or remove critical reviews.

Consumer Alerts

Consumer Alerts: what triggers them and when they come off

Since 2012 Yelp has placed warnings over the reviews of businesses it finds trying to manipulate their ratings, or receiving review surges driven by the news. Alerts come off on Yelp’s schedule: usually 90 days after the behavior stops for the 2 most common types, case by case for the rest.

FAQ

Removing your business from Yelp: FAQ

Can I delete my business from Yelp?▾

No. Yelp says "We don’t remove business pages from our site upon request", because business information is typically a matter of public record. You can mark the business closed, report a move or a duplicate, report an ineligible page, hide a home address, or unclaim the page. None of these deletes the page.

How do I remove my business from Yelp after it closed?▾

Mark it permanently closed: in the Yelp for Business app, Biz Info, Mark Business as Closed, Close Permanently, add proof, then Request Closure. Yelp verifies it first. The page is featured less prominently, then removed from Yelp search results, but stays reachable through direct links and reviewers’ profiles.

Does closing my Yelp business account delete my page?▾

No. Yelp says closing a business account does not remove the business page, and unclaiming it does not either. Both only end your access to manage it. Reply to reviews and fix your details before you close, because you lose those tools.

Can I remove my business from Yelp to get rid of bad reviews?▾

No. The page and its reviews stay whatever you do with your account. Report reviews that break Yelp’s Content Guidelines, such as conflicts of interest or reviews not based on a firsthand experience, and reply to the rest. Reviews Yelp does not recommend do not count toward your star rating.

My business moved. Do my Yelp reviews move with it?▾

Usually not when location and ambiance are central, such as a restaurant: Yelp opens a new page, marks the old one moved, and reviews and photos generally stay on the old page. A retail or service business with the same experience usually just gets its address updated.

How do I report a duplicate Yelp page?▾

On yelp.com, open the duplicate page, click Edit, check This is a duplicate of another business on Yelp, paste the link to the page that should stay, and click Submit Changes. On mobile, use Edit Business and say it is a duplicate in Notes. Yelp’s rule is 1 page per location.

Can I hide my home address on Yelp?▾

Yes, if customers cannot visit it. Set a service area in Business Information (up to 6 cities, within a 50-mile radius), and businesses with a service area can hide their address from the public. For other personal details on a page, contact Yelp Support.

Can a company remove Yelp reviews or my Yelp page for a fee?▾

No. Yelp decides, and it says reputation firms that claim they can remove negative reviews or raise ratings for a fee "can’t". Paying anyone to change or remove reviews breaks Yelp’s rules and can lead to a Consumer Alert. Use Yelp’s own report flow, or ask for a free case read first.

What if a Yelp review about my business is false?▾

Report it if it breaks a guideline, with evidence. Yelp does not take sides in factual disputes, so moderators may leave it up. If a court has ruled it defamatory, send Yelp Support the final order. A defamation claim is brought against the reviewer, not Yelp. Talk to a lawyer first.

Why is my business on Yelp if I never added it?▾

Yelp publishes business information so consumers can share their experiences, and it says that information is typically a matter of public record. Anyone can add or suggest a business. Claim the page for free at biz.yelp.com to reply to reviews and keep your details correct.

What Yelp does not say, so this page does not either

  • Whether Yelp merges or closes a reported duplicate page, and what happens to its reviews.
  • How long Yelp takes to verify a closure, move, duplicate or eligibility report. For review reports Yelp says only "may take several days".
  • Whether reviews follow a business after a change of owner or a significant name change.
  • Where owners can close a page on the website: Yelp’s closure article names Manage extended closures in the business account, while its substantial-changes article says these changes cannot be suggested from biz.yelp.com. We lead with the app path, which Yelp spells out step by step.
