Essentras in ChatGPT

ChatGPT reaches Essentras through a custom MCP server added in Plugins on ChatGPT web. The endpoint is https://essentras.com/api/mcp. It needs no account, no API key and no OAuth, so you choose No authentication. ChatGPT searches outlets, prices a basket and runs free checkers. You open the checkout link and pay.

Quick start

  1. Open Plugins

    On ChatGPT web, go to Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.

  2. Enter and create

    Name it Essentras and enter https://essentras.com/api/mcp under Connection. Choose No authentication, tick I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.

  3. Install and ask

    Install the plugin, start a new chat, type @ and select Essentras, then ask.

Common workflows

Search, compare, quote

Type @, select Essentras and state a goal and budget. ChatGPT calls search_outlets, get_outlet and quote_placements, then shows the total and a checkout_url for you to open and pay.

Free diagnosis

Ask about a removal or a Knowledge Panel. ChatGPT calls the matching checker with fixed choices and reports the verdict, starting with the official route. It promises no outcome, because Google or Meta decides.

Notability test

Paste your list of sources. ChatGPT runs check_wikipedia_notability and returns a verdict per source. Paid placements never count toward Wikipedia notability, so it will not recommend them for that goal.

Tips for success

  • Type @ and select Essentras for each message that needs it. Selection applies to that message only.
  • Be explicit: name the tool, such as quote_placements, and add Do not use built-in browsing.
  • Open the plugin details page to toggle tools, and select Refresh to pull new tools.
  • All 8 Essentras tools declare readOnlyHint true, which OpenAI says it respects.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Developer Mode?▾

Not in the current flow. OpenAI says you add a custom MCP server directly from Plugins, without turning on Developer Mode, and you accept a risk warning for each server. Its help article keeps a separate legacy app flow under Workspace settings, Apps.

Which ChatGPT plans can add it?▾

OpenAI’s help article lists ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on the web for custom MCP servers and full MCP, and says Pro users can connect them with read and fetch permissions. It does not list Free, Go or Plus. Check Plugins in your account.

Can ChatGPT pay for a placement?▾

No. quote_placements returns a checkout_url. You open it, review the basket and total, and authorize payment yourself. The card is charged when the order is placed, and the order is refunded if the placement is not published or the turnaround is missed.

Is there a desktop app route?▾

Yes, separately from Plugins. The ChatGPT desktop app hosts Codex. In Settings, MCP servers, Add server, enter a name, choose Streamable HTTP, paste the URL and save, then select Restart. Type /mcp in the composer to check. The configuration is shared with the Codex CLI.

Troubleshooting

No Add custom MCP server option

Use ChatGPT on the web, not mobile. The permission is Create plugins with MCPs, and on Business only admins and owners can create plugins.

ChatGPT does not call Essentras

Install the plugin, type @ and select Essentras before you ask, and name the tool you want.

Error 429 or rate_limited

Essentras allows 120 MCP requests per IP per minute. Wait about 60 seconds, then ask again.
