Essentras in Claude

Add Essentras to Claude as a custom connector and ask for outlets, prices and free checks in plain language. The connector is a remote MCP server at https://essentras.com/api/mcp. It needs no account, no API key and no sign in. Claude searches and quotes, then hands you a checkout link that you open and pay.

Quick start

  1. Open Connectors

    In claude.ai or the desktop app, go to Customize, then Connectors. Select + Add, then Add custom connector.

  2. Enter the server

    Name it Essentras, paste https://essentras.com/api/mcp as the server URL and select Continue. Under Authentication choose No sign in, select Continue if asked, then select Add.

  3. Switch it on

    In a chat, select + at the lower left, then Connectors, and turn Essentras on.

Enter these values in the Add custom connector dialog. Team and Enterprise owners use Organization settings, then Connectors.

Common workflows

From budget to checkout

Give Claude a goal and a budget. It calls search_outlets, get_outlet and quote_placements, then shows line items, any volume discount and the total. Open the checkout_url, review the basket and pay.

Check a review before buying

Describe the review. Claude asks fixed-choice questions through check_review_removability and reports the verdict with the Google rule behind it. The free route comes before any service price.

Test Wikipedia notability

List your sources by type. Claude runs check_wikipedia_notability and returns a verdict for each. Press releases and paid placements never count, so it will not suggest buying placements for Wikipedia.

Tips for success

  • Name the connector if Claude answers from memory: Use Essentras to search outlets.
  • Read each approval prompt. Essentras tools only search, price and check.
  • Use the Search and tools menu to turn off tools you do not need.
  • To change the URL, remove the connector and add it again.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an Essentras account or API key?▾

No. Essentras runs a public remote MCP server with no authentication, so you choose No sign in when you add the connector. There is no password or token to paste. Prices, turnaround and link policy come straight from the live catalog, in USD.

Can Claude pay for a placement?▾

No. quote_placements returns a checkout_url. You open it, review the basket and total, and authorize payment yourself. The card is charged when the order is placed, and the order is refunded if the placement is not published or the turnaround is missed.

Does the desktop app work the same way?▾

Yes. Custom connectors are available on claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Cowork, so the steps are the same. Remote connectors are set up through your Claude account, and Claude reaches the server from Anthropic’s cloud, not from your machine. Servers in claude_desktop_config.json are a separate, local mechanism.

What data does Claude send to Essentras?▾

Search filters, outlet ids and, for the checkers, fixed choices such as a situation or a source type. Checkers never take a name, email, handle or link, so no personal data has to leave the conversation. A quote reserves nothing and creates no order.

Troubleshooting

Add custom connector is missing

On Team plans only Owners and Primary Owners can add connectors. Ask an owner to add Essentras, then select Connect under Customize, then Connectors.

Tools do not show up in a chat

Select + at the lower left, then Connectors, and check the Essentras toggle.

Error 429 or rate_limited

Essentras allows 120 MCP requests per IP per minute. Wait about 60 seconds, then ask again.
