Telegram account bans
Telegram account banned: what you can do
If Telegram says your phone number is banned when you log in, use its form for login problems at telegram.org/support. If you can still read chats but sending is blocked or limited, appeal inside the app, or write to @SpamBot if a spam limit is wrong. Telegram identifies accounts only by phone number.
Checked on 19 Oct 2026 against 9 Telegram pages: the FAQ, the Spam FAQ, the support form, the EU guidance, the terms, a Telegram blog post and its API documentation. Full source list
What you will do
- Tell a banned number from a frozen or spam-limited account.
- Use the route Telegram documents for each: the login form, the in-app appeal or @SpamBot.
- Know what Telegram says it cannot do, so you do not wait for the impossible.
- Keep your channel, group or business reachable while you wait.
- Avoid fake Telegram support and unban sellers.

Banned number, frozen account or spam limit: find out which you have
Telegram uses different restrictions for different problems. A banned number cannot log in; a frozen account can read but not send; a limited account can still talk to its contacts. Each has its own route.
Source: Telegram, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2]; Telegram blog, read 19 Oct 2026| Restriction | What Telegram says | What you can still do | Official route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banned number | Its API names the error PHONE_NUMBER_BANNED: the number is banned from Telegram | Nothing in the app until the ban is lifted | The login-problem form at telegram.org/support |
| Frozen account | Restricted because of reports from other users | Read your chats | Appeal from the app |
| Spam limit | Moderators reviewed reported messages and limited the account for a time | Message contacts who saved your number, and reply to anyone who writes first | Wait, or @SpamBot if the limit is wrong |
| Banned bot, channel or sticker set | Telegram takes down public content after legal checks | The FAQ does not say | [email protected] if it was banned for no apparent reason |
| Deleted account | Termination is irreversible; signing up again creates a new user | Nothing from the old account comes back | None |
| Too many attempts | A separate error from a ban: too many code requests or logins | Wait | Try again later |
Telegram says its moderation has combined user reports with proactive machine-learning monitoring since 2015, enhanced with AI tools in early 2024. For EU users, its DSA guidance adds that some limits are applied or lifted automatically, that any critical restriction needs a human moderator’s approval, and that Telegram may temporarily or permanently suspend account features, such as contacting people who likely do not know you.
What gets accounts limited, in Telegram’s words: messages strangers find unwelcome, whether a photo, an invite link or a simple hello; unsolicited advertising and anything about commerce or online popularity; and adding people to groups and channels they did not ask for. Group admins can report spam too, and human moderators check every report.
Source: Telegram[1][2][3]Frozen accounts, since April 2025
Telegram’s blog post of 30 Apr 2025 says that rather than being logged out at once, banned violators get a frozen account: they cannot contact other users, but they can submit an appeal for moderators to review. If it succeeds, the account is unfrozen and its restrictions are lifted.
Source: Telegram blogHow to ask Telegram to review a ban or a limit
Telegram documents a route for each restriction: the support form for a number that cannot log in, the in-app appeal for a frozen account, and @SpamBot for a spam limit you believe is wrong. None comes with a promised time.
Source: Telegram, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2][3]If your number is banned at login
Check the number format
Enter the number in international format: a plus sign, the country code, then the number, as Telegram’s FAQ shows.
Make sure it is a ban, not too many attempts
If Telegram tells you to try later, wait: too many code requests is a different error from a banned number.
Open telegram.org/support
Telegram’s FAQ sends registration and login problems to this form.
Describe the problem
Give the number, say that login fails because it is banned, and add the facts that show normal use (text below). The form also asks for your full legal name, email and phone number.
Submit once and check your email
The form takes the email address you give. Telegram’s pages state no response time.
Use @SmsTelegram for login help
Telegram names @SmsTelegram on X as its official login-help account and says it has no other support accounts on social media.
Never send your login code, your Two-Step Verification password or a passkey to anyone during this process. Telegram’s form does not ask for them.
If your account is frozen or limited
Read the notice in the app
A frozen account can still read chats. For EU users, Telegram says it notifies you of restrictions and guides you on how to remove them.
Appeal from the app
Use the appeal Telegram offers on a frozen account. Its moderators review the case and unfreeze the account if the restriction was a mistake.
For a spam limit, write to @SpamBot
Explain why you believe the limit is wrong. If the number is new to you, say so: Telegram says previous owners can trigger limits.
Stop messaging strangers while you wait
Telegram says repeated offences bring longer limits, and that asking to be released sooner is impossible.

What Telegram says it cannot do
Knowing the limits saves days of waiting. Telegram states these plainly on its own pages, and no paid service can change them.

Source: Telegram[1][2]Channels, groups, bots and businesses: keep your audience reachable
A ban on the owner’s account can strand a community. Telegram’s FAQ says that when an account is deleted, its groups and channels lose their creator but admins keep their rights, which makes a trusted second admin the simplest continuity plan.
Source: Telegram, read 19 Oct 2026Before anything happens
- Add a trusted second admin to every channel and group you run, on a separate account that follows the rules.
- Keep an up-to-date phone number on the account, and add Two-Step Verification and a passkey, so losing a SIM does not lose the account.Source: Telegram
- Keep a channel outside Telegram for your audience: a newsletter, a page on your website or another platform you control.
- List every place that links to your channel or bot (t.me links, QR codes, bios), so you can update them in a single pass.
While the account is banned or frozen
- Post the status on your website and other channels: what happened, where to follow you meanwhile, and that you will never ask for money or codes from a new account.
- Ask an admin who still has access to pin the same notice in your channels and groups.
- Watch for impersonators. Telegram can mark impersonation accounts with a FAKE or SCAM label; report them to @NoToScam.Source: Telegram[1][2]
- If a bot or channel was banned rather than your account, use [email protected] instead of the account routes.Source: Telegram
- Plan for paid features: Telegram’s terms say a ban can end Telegram Premium benefits without compensation, and giveaway sponsors are not refunded if they lose access to the channel.Source: Telegram

Fake Telegram support and unban sellers
Telegram says login codes should never be shared with anyone, that a bot should never get your passwords or Telegram codes, and that it has no support accounts on social media except @SmsTelegram. Anyone selling an unban is outside every route Telegram documents.
Source: Telegram, read 19 Oct 2026Red flags, and what to do
Unban offers often arrive right after you post about a ban. The FTC’s rule for unexpected offers to recover what you lost, for a fee paid first: it is a scam.
Red flags
- Claims to be Telegram support on Facebook, Instagram, X (other than @SmsTelegram) or any other platform.
- Asks for your login code, your Two-Step Verification password or a passkey.
- A bot asks for passwords, Telegram codes or bank details. Telegram says to treat every bot as a stranger.
- Promises to lift a ban or a limit, or to release it sooner. Telegram says early release is impossible.
- Wants payment first in gift cards, cryptocurrency, a wire transfer or a payment app.
- Contacts you first, often in a group, right after you mention the ban.
What to do
- Do not reply or pay. Report the message in the app: tap or hold it, then choose Report.
- If you shared a code, log in on a device you still control, end every other session in Settings, Devices, and turn on Two-Step Verification.
- If someone impersonates you or your channel, contact @NoToScam.
- In the US, report the scam at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, as the FTC advises.
Mistakes that keep a Telegram account banned
Most of these turn a short limit into a long limit, or a recoverable account into a lost account.
- Messaging strangers again as soon as a limit lifts. Telegram says repeated offences bring longer limits, possibly for good.Source: Telegram
- Requesting codes again and again. Too many code requests is its own error and only adds waiting.Source: Telegram API documentation
- Deleting the account in frustration. Deletion is irreversible.Source: Telegram
- Letting the number lapse with your carrier. Without the number, Telegram says it cannot help.Source: Telegram
- Signing up with a virtual or VOIP number. Telegram says some of these trigger an overly harsh response from its system.Source: Telegram
- Sharing a login code with a bot, a self-styled support agent or a friend.Source: Telegram
- Sending the same request everywhere at once. The form is for login problems, @SpamBot for limits and [email protected] for bots and channels.Source: Telegram[1][2]
- Adding people to groups or channels they did not ask for, which Telegram names as a reason people report you.Source: Telegram
FAQ
Telegram ban questions, answered
How long does a Telegram ban last?▾
Telegram says a first spam limit usually lasts a few days, and repeated offences bring longer limits, possibly for good when it comes to messaging strangers. It states no duration for a banned number or a frozen account, and says it lifts restrictions that were applied by mistake.
How do I contact Telegram support about a banned account?▾
For a number that cannot log in, Telegram points to its form at telegram.org/support and to @SmsTelegram on X. For a frozen account, appeal inside the app. For a spam limit, write to @SpamBot. Other questions go to Settings, Ask a question, which volunteers answer.
What is @SpamBot on Telegram?▾
@SpamBot is the official bot Telegram’s Spam FAQ names for limits you believe were applied wrongly. You tell it your story, including when a new number may carry a previous owner’s history. It cannot release a correct limit early: Telegram says that is impossible.
What is a frozen Telegram account?▾
Telegram says an account restricted because of reports from other users is frozen: you can still read your chats, but you cannot send messages or post. You can appeal from the app; moderators review it, and the account is unfrozen if the restriction was a mistake.
Why does Telegram say my phone number is banned?▾
The number itself is banned from Telegram; its developer documentation calls the error PHONE_NUMBER_BANNED. Use the form for login problems at telegram.org/support. If you received the number recently, say so: Telegram’s Spam FAQ says a previous owner’s activity can make its system react harshly to a number.
Can I recover a deleted Telegram account?▾
No. Telegram says deleting an account is irreversible: if you sign up again, you appear as a new user without your history, contacts or groups. Accounts that stay offline for 18 months, the default setting, self-destruct the same way.
Can Telegram help if I lost my SIM card?▾
Only through the number. Telegram says the phone number is the only way it identifies a user, so without the number or a logged-in device it cannot help. Ask your carrier for a new SIM with the same number, then end the old session in Settings, Devices.
Is there a Telegram email for banned accounts?▾
No Telegram page we read gives such an address for banned accounts. Telegram’s FAQ lists [email protected] for bots, channels or sticker sets banned for no apparent reason; account and login problems go through the form at telegram.org/support.
Can I pay someone to unban my Telegram account?▾
No documented route involves a paid unban. Telegram lists only its own form, the in-app appeal and @SpamBot, and says it has no support accounts on social media besides @SmsTelegram. Never give anyone your login code, and treat a fee paid first for an unban as the scam pattern the FTC describes.
What happens to my channel if my Telegram account is banned?▾
Telegram’s pages do not say for banned accounts. For deleted accounts, its FAQ says groups and channels lose their creator but admins keep their rights. A trusted second admin is the best protection for a community you run.
