TikTok account bans
TikTok account banned: how to appeal
To appeal a TikTok ban, open the ban notification in the app and tap Appeal; TikTok says an approved appeal reinstates the account and removes the penalty. Check Account status first. Strikes expire after 90 days, and an underage ban must be appealed within 113 days (180 in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, 23 in the US).
Checked on 19 Oct 2026 against 14 TikTok pages (Help Center, Creator Academy, Shop Academy, terms and DSA contacts), plus the European Commission’s list of dispute bodies. Full source list
What you will do
- Tell a feature restriction from a permanent ban, using Account status.
- Appeal from the ban notification, the way TikTok documents it.
- Meet the deadlines for underage and age-feature appeals.
- Use the EU’s out-of-court route if TikTok says no and you live in the EU.
- Protect a creator or TikTok Shop business while you wait, and avoid unban scams.
Start here in 1 click
Find your situation, then open TikTok’s own page for it in 1 click. Most routes start from a notification inside the app, so the link explains where that notification is.

Suspended, restricted or permanently banned: how TikTok decides
TikTok removes violating content and adds a strike; enough strikes in 1 feature or policy restrict that feature or ban the account. Account status shows where you stand, and TikTok’s EEA terms say it may temporarily suspend, permanently restrict or terminate an account.

- You do not meet the minimum age or other requirements in the Terms of Service.Source: TikTok Help Center
- The account impersonates another person or entity in a deceptive way.Source: TikTok Help Center
- A severe violation: youth exploitation or child sexual abuse material, promoting or threatening violence, non-consensual sexual acts, human trafficking or real-world torture.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Using another account to get around a restriction or a permanent ban on your account.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Multiple violations of TikTok’s policies, or of its Intellectual Property Policy.Source: TikTok Help Center

TikTok says everything uploaded goes through an automated review, unclear cases go to a moderator, and content gets a second look when it becomes popular or is reported. Thresholds differ by risk: TikTok weighs violations of its hateful ideologies policy more heavily than spam.
For certain first violations you may be offered optional in-app policy training. Complete it and eligible restrictions may be lifted, unless the violation was severe. Deleting the violating content afterwards does not remove the violation.
Source: TikTok Creator Academy; TikTok Help CenterHow to appeal a TikTok ban in the app
TikTok documents 1 appeal route for a banned account: the Appeal button on the ban notification. A member of its safety team reviews the decision again, and TikTok notifies you of the outcome.

Log in to the banned account
TikTok says a banned account can still log in to submit an appeal and download personal data.
Open the ban notification
It appears as a banner when you open the app. Violation notices also sit under Inbox, System notifications, Account updates.
Tap Appeal
TikTok’s Creator Academy says the Appeal button sits in the upper right corner of the moderation result page.
Follow the instructions and explain briefly
Say why the decision is a mistake in 2 or 3 factual sentences (texts below). Never add a password or a code.
Keep the content and track the appeal
Do not delete content under appeal: TikTok says it may then be unable to clear the violation from your record. Track the appeal in the in-app Safety Center.
Download your data while you wait
Request your data from the banned account, so your videos are safe whatever the outcome.
If the appeal is approved, TikTok restores the content and account status and removes the penalty. TikTok’s pages state no review time.
Other contact routes TikTok lists
- Chat with us: in the app go to Profile, Menu, Settings and privacy, Help Center, then Chat with us. TikTok says only its Support team can help with your requests.Source: TikTok Help Center
- The online Report a problem form, which TikTok links for other account help. Its topics include Account access / security and Change date of birth; none is named for bans.Source: TikTok; TikTok Help Center
- EU users: TikTok names [email protected] as its single point of contact under the Digital Services Act, and points first to the Help Center and the feedback form.Source: TikTok Transparency Center
- No TikTok page we read gives an email address for ban appeals outside that EU contact point.
Texts to copy for the appeal
Appeal text for a permanent ban
For the appeal screen. 3 facts beat 3 paragraphs, and never admit to something you did not do.
I believe my account @[username] was banned by mistake. The ban notice cites [policy named in the notice]. [1 or 2 sentences on why the content or behaviour did not break that rule, for example: the video was educational and the caption said so.] I have read the Community Guidelines and want to keep using TikTok within them. Please review the decision.
Appeal text for a removed video
For a removal that added a violation. Name the video and the context TikTok may have missed.
Video: [title or date posted]. Reason given: [policy in the notification]. Context: [for example a news or documentary clip, satire, an educational demonstration, original music I own]. [If relevant: the caption or voiceover states this context at [timestamp].] I believe the video follows the Community Guidelines. Please restore it.
Banned for age: underage and minimum-age appeals have deadlines
TikTok bans accounts it believes belong to someone under 13, and removes features such as LIVE from users below their minimum age. Both decisions can be appealed, but only within fixed windows, and the age checks depend on your age and country.
Source: TikTok Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2]| Where you are | Time to appeal and download data | Account deleted on |
|---|---|---|
| Most countries | 113 days from the ban | Day 120, then data deletion starts |
| EEA, UK and Switzerland | 180 days | Day 187 |
| United States | 23 days | Day 30 |
The data file can take a few days to prepare and stays available for up to 4 days once it is ready.
Source: TikTok Help Center| Method | For | What TikTok asks for |
|---|---|---|
| ID and selfies | Underage appeals | Photos of a government-issued ID and 3 selfies from different angles; the result arrives by email if you are banned |
| Selfie with ID through Incode | Underage appeals | ID photos and a selfie taken in real time; 15 minutes to finish, and a 15-minute wait if you exit |
| Credit card authorization | Anyone 18 or older | A small, temporary charge that is refunded |
| Facial age estimation | Where available | A real-time selfie; the provider sends TikTok an age estimate and deletes the selfie |
| Selfie with ID and a code | Minimum-age appeals, 16 or older | An ID photo, and a selfie holding the ID and a paper with a code TikTok sends |
| Parent or guardian | Minimum-age appeals, 16 to 17 | The guardian confirms your age by email on a phone and authorizes a credit card |
| Photo with a parent or trusted adult | Minimum-age appeals, 16 to 17 | A photo with an adult over 25 holding a paper titled TikTok proof of age, your date of birth and the code |
The minimum ages TikTok lists for features: 18 for LIVE, 18 for buying Coins (19 in South Korea) and 16 for direct messages. Losing 1 of these features is not a ban: you keep the account and have 180 days to appeal. You can still request LIVE Replays within 30 days of their creation and your direct messages within 113 days (180 in the EEA, 23 in the US).
Source: TikTok Help CenterChecklist to copy before an age appeal
Checklist before an underage appeal
The methods differ by age and country, and some have a 15-minute limit. Prepare everything before you tap Appeal.
[ ] Days left in my window: [113 / 180 in the EEA, UK or Switzerland / 23 in the US] from [ban date] [ ] Data download requested from the ban notification [ ] Government-issued ID ready, photographed in good light [ ] Ready for live selfies: 3 angles for ID and selfies, or 1 real-time selfie for Incode [ ] An email address I can open (results arrive by email) [ ] If 18 or older: a credit card in my name for the temporary authorization
If the window has closed
TikTok says it deletes an underage-banned account on day 120 (187 in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, 30 in the US) and starts deleting the data. Its pages describe no route after that, so treat the deadline as final and download your data early.
Source: TikTok Help CenterIf TikTok says no: the EU out-of-court route, and what exists elsewhere
In the EU, TikTok says users can take any dispute with it, including about appeals, to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. Outside the EU, TikTok’s pages document no step after the in-app appeal.
Source: TikTok Transparency Center, read 19 Oct 2026; European Commission, read 19 Oct 2026How the EU route works
- Appeal inside TikTok first. The Commission says users may appeal through the platform’s internal complaint system, and platforms must review their decisions promptly.Source: European Commission
- Choose a certified body from the Commission’s list. On 19 Oct 2026 it listed 11 bodies; User Rights (Germany) and Appeals Centre Europe (Ireland) name TikTok among the platforms they cover.Source: European Commission
- Check the fee on the body’s website. The Commission says dispute settlement is usually free or low cost for users, and the platform pays all fees if the body rules for the user.Source: European Commission
- Know the limit: bodies cannot impose a binding settlement, but platforms and users must engage with them in good faith. You can always go to a national court instead.Source: European Commission
TikTok’s EEA terms say that if you think it made a mistake in restricting, suspending or terminating your account, you can appeal, TikTok will decide again, and it will restore access if its action was not justified. The terms also link to a page on complaint handling and redress; on 19 Oct 2026 that link returned TikTok’s page-not-found screen, so rely on the in-app appeal and the Commission’s list.
Source: TikTok; TikTok Transparency CenterOutside the EU
The in-app appeal is the documented route. TikTok’s Help Center adds Chat with us and the Report a problem form for other account help, but neither is described as a second appeal, and no TikTok page we read promises a review time.
Source: TikTok Help Center; TikTokCreator, brand and TikTok Shop accounts: income, audience and deadlines
A ban hits creators and sellers twice: the audience and the income. TikTok runs separate rules for Creator Programs, LIVE transactions and TikTok Shop, each with its own notice and appeal.

|---|---|---|
| Creator Programs (Creator Rewards Program, TikTok One, Subscription, LIVE gifting, TikTok Shop) | Access restricted for Creator Code of Conduct breaches, including verifiable conduct off TikTok: 3 months for severe cases, permanently for egregious ones | Appeal if you believe the restriction is an error; payments owed under past contracts are not restricted |
| Monetary transactions | Sending or receiving LIVE Gifts, getting Coins or receiving reward payments blocked | Announced by direct message in your inbox; the page names no separate appeal |
| TikTok Shop (US) | Violations recorded in Shop Health that can withdraw selling privileges | Seller Center within 30 calendar days; a second appeal within 15 days of a denial; final after that |
| Public interest accounts (government, politicians, news) | At the violation limit, 90 days out of the For You and Following feeds; in high-risk periods, 7 to 30 days without posting | Severe violations can still bring a permanent ban |
Appeal a TikTok Shop violation (US)
Open Shop Health
In Seller Center, go to the Shop Health page.
Find the violation
Open Violation Records and choose View & Appeal on the violation.
Prepare your evidence
A clear explanation of why the action is wrong, with supporting documents, images or videos (text below).
Appeal within 30 calendar days
TikTok Shop says a violation can no longer be appealed 30 days after the notice was sent.
Use the second appeal if needed
If the first appeal fails, you can appeal again within 15 calendar days of that decision. TikTok Shop says its decisions are final once the appeal concludes.
Protect your audience and income while you wait
- Download your data from the banned account first, so your videos survive whatever the decision.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Tell your audience on channels you already run, such as Instagram, YouTube, a newsletter or your website. Do not open a new TikTok account to replace the banned account: TikTok says it may restrict or ban accounts used to get around an active restriction or ban.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Update link-in-bio pages, your website and other profiles that point to the TikTok account, and pause ads or campaigns that send people there.
- Tell brand partners early, with the date and the appeal status; posts promised under a contract may need new dates.
- For a shop, gather order records, invoices and product documents now: a Shop appeal needs supporting documents.Source: TikTok Shop Academy (US)

Unban sellers and fake TikTok support: how to spot them
TikTok says it will never contact you to ask for your password, verification codes or other sensitive personal information. Anyone who does, or who sells an unban, is not TikTok.
Source: TikTok Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026Red flags, and what to do
Scammers target creators who post about a ban, often in comments or direct messages. The FTC’s rule for unexpected offers to get back what you lost, for a fee paid first: it is a scam.
Red flags
- Promises to lift the ban, or claims a contact inside TikTok.
- Asks for your password, a verification code or a 2-step verification code.
- Wants payment first in gift cards, cryptocurrency, a wire transfer or a payment app.
- Offers free likes, followers, Coins or other incentives on a third-party website; TikTok says such sites may get your login information.
- Sends a link to a look-alike login page, or claims to be TikTok outside the app’s own notifications.
- Asks for a photo of your ID by message, instead of inside TikTok’s own appeal.
What to do
- Do not reply or click. Report the message or the account in TikTok.
- If you shared a password or a code, change your password, turn on 2-step verification, and check your devices and Security alerts under Security & permissions.
- Run Security checkup (Settings and privacy, Security & permissions) and add a passkey.
- In the US, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, as the FTC advises.
Mistakes that cost TikTok appeals
These are the errors TikTok’s own pages warn about, plus the ones that turn a fixable restriction into a ban.
- Deleting content under appeal. TikTok says it may then be unable to clear the violation, and deleting violating content does not remove the violation either.Source: TikTok Help Center[1][2]
- Opening a new account to dodge the ban. TikTok may restrict or ban accounts made to get around an active restriction or ban.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Missing the underage window: 23 days in the US is short.Source: TikTok Help Center
- Submitting clearly unfounded appeals or reports, which TikTok’s EEA terms prohibit.Source: TikTok
- Ignoring Account status and the on-the-verge warning, then adding another violation.Source: TikTok Creator Academy
- Paying an unban seller, or giving anyone your login details.Source: TikTok Help Center

FAQ
TikTok ban questions, answered
How long does a TikTok appeal take?▾
TikTok’s pages state no review time. They say a member of the safety team reviews the decision again and that TikTok notifies you of the outcome, and you can track the appeal in the in-app Safety Center. Treat any exact time a third party quotes as a guess.
Can a permanently banned TikTok account come back?▾
Yes, if the appeal is approved. TikTok says an approved appeal reinstates the content and account status, unless you deleted them, and removes the penalty. If TikTok keeps the ban, users in the EU can still take the dispute to a certified out-of-court body.
Do TikTok strikes expire?▾
Yes. TikTok’s Creator Academy says strikes expire from your account record after 90 days, and its Help Center says the same of violations. Account status shows your history for the last 90 days as Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned.
How many strikes until TikTok bans you?▾
TikTok publishes no single number. It sets thresholds per feature, like Comments or LIVE, and per policy, weighs some policies more heavily, bans on the first strike for zero-tolerance violations, and says it notifies you when you are on the verge of a permanent ban.
What if I missed the deadline for an underage appeal?▾
TikTok deletes the account on day 120 (187 in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, 30 in the US) and starts deleting the data. Its pages describe no route after the appeal window of 113 days (180 or 23), so appeal and download your data as early as you can.
Can I make a new TikTok account after a ban?▾
TikTok allows multiple accounts, but says it may restrict or permanently ban an account used to get around a restriction or ban on another account you own, especially after a severe violation, while that ban is active. Appeal the original account instead.
Is there a TikTok email for ban appeals?▾
No TikTok page we read lists such an address. The documented route is Appeal in the ban notification. For other account help TikTok lists Chat with us and the Report a problem form, and EU users have a single point of contact by email under the Digital Services Act.
Can I download my videos from a banned TikTok account?▾
Yes, for a time. TikTok says you can log in to a banned account to appeal and download your personal data, and that it deletes the data after a period set by law and its retention policy. For underage bans the window is 113 days (180 or 23).
How do I appeal a TikTok Shop violation?▾
In Seller Center open Shop Health, Violation Records, View & Appeal, then Appeal, within 30 calendar days of the notice (US). If it is denied you can appeal once more within 15 days; TikTok Shop says decisions are final after that.
What is TikTok’s out-of-court dispute settlement?▾
A Digital Services Act right for EU users: after TikTok’s own appeal, you can take the dispute to a body certified by an EU country. It is usually free or low cost for users, the platform pays all fees if you win, and the result is not binding.
Next steps
- Banned? Open the ban notification and tap Appeal today.
- Flagged as under 13? Count your days and confirm your age before the window closes.
- A shop seller? Appeal in Seller Center within 30 days.
- In the EU and refused? Pick a dispute body from the Commission’s list.
- Offered an unban for money? Read the red flags first.
