The security email link, then instagram.com/hacked
First 3 steps
Search your inbox and spam for an email from [email protected] about the change, and select secure my account in it. Open it in your own mail app.
If that fails, type instagram.com/hacked into a browser, or tap Forgot password? on the login screen and request a login link to an email or phone on the account.
If the link does not work, request support from a mobile device with a secure email only you can access, then complete the identity check Instagram asks for.
Watch out: Do not pay anyone who offers to get it back faster, and never share a login code.
Take screenshots that show the usernames, the messages and the dates.
Use Report on each post, comment, message or profile, then block the account.
If someone threatens your safety or threatens to share private images, contact local police as well. Instagram's reporting help has a section on threats to share private images.

A family member has died: request memorialization with proof of death, or removal as verified immediate family.
Fake Instagram support emails and numbers: how to stay safe
Instagram has no public support line, and that gap is where scammers work. Meta itself warns that phone numbers claiming to be Meta customer support are potentially scams.Source: Instagram Help Center, read 15 Oct 2026
Fake support numbers and emails
An "Instagram support" phone number or email address in an ad, listicle, comment or social post does not come from Instagram. None of the Instagram contact pages we read lists such a number or address for account help.
Third parties pay to appear on these searches. Google Keyword Planner showed top-of-page bids of $1.24 to $4.30 a click for "instagram hacked support" in the US on 14 October 2026. A sponsored result is placed by whoever paid for it, and Instagram lists no support number, so an ad offering an Instagram support number is not from Instagram.
In our 14 October 2026 check, 5 of the 9 results a search tool returned for "instagram support email" were spam-style pages planted on unrelated university, government and business websites. It was a research search tool, not Google, so treat the order as indicative.
The 2 contact details Instagram does list, [email protected] and 650.543.4800, belong to its DMCA designated agent for copyright notices. Writing or calling there about a hacked account is not a documented recovery route.
Recovery scams that target these searches
People who search for Instagram support are often locked out and stressed. These are the patterns our research found most often:
Fake support or "recovery agent" accounts that reply to your public post or message you first.
"Ethical hacker" or "hack back" offers. Real recovery never involves hacking.
Emails that imitate Instagram with copyright strikes, verification badges or deletion threats.
Fake appeal or verification forms that ask for your password, login codes, ID or a selfie.
Upfront "unlock fees" paid by crypto, Zelle or gift cards.
Claims of an insider or a "Meta employee" who can skip the queue.
A second scam aimed at people who already lost money, promising to get it back. The FBI's IC3 says it never works with law firms or crypto services to recover funds.
Instagram sends security messages only to your email address, from addresses ending in @mail.instagram.com, @support.instagram.com, @support.facebook.com, @facebookmail.com or @global.metamail.com.
Check Recent emails in your settings: Settings, Meta Account (some accounts still show Accounts Center), Login and security, Recent emails. Instagram lists the official emails it sent you in the last 14 days, split into Security and Other.
Instagram says it never contacts you about profile security through Direct Messages. A DM about your account security is not from Instagram.
For business accounts, Meta says its correspondence comes only from fb.com, facebook.com, facebookmail.com, instagram.com, meta.com, metamail.com and a few of their subdomains, and real account notices appear in Business Support Home.
Sender names and addresses can be faked. Do not click the link in the message: open the app or type instagram.com yourself.
Your password, payment details or other sensitive information over chat, text, email or phone, according to Meta. Treat login codes the same way.
A conversation about your account security in Instagram Direct Messages.
Login details for another person's account. Instagram says it cannot provide login information for a memorialized profile, and that logging into someone else's profile is always against its policies.

Independent help
Where an independent service fits
Every channel above is free, and the official process is the only legitimate way back into an account. If the account matters to your income and the official flow keeps stalling, Essentras helps you recover your own account through those same official channels: you complete the identity steps, and we prepare, coach, review and track the case.
We never ask for your password or login codes, we are not affiliated with Instagram or Meta, and nobody, including us, can guarantee an outcome or a timeline.
Managed recovery is a flat $6,500, so try the free paths first.
Not a public address for account help. Instagram's contact pages list no general support inbox (checked 15 October 2026). Email support exists inside Meta Verified, for active subscribers who have completed verification. Everyone else gets help through instagram.com/hacked, the Help Center, the in-app tools and the Meta AI support assistant.
Instagram does not list it as a way to contact support, so writing to it is not a documented route to account help. Instagram's security emails come from addresses ending in @mail.instagram.com, @support.instagram.com, @support.facebook.com, @facebookmail.com or @global.metamail.com, and you can confirm any of them under Recent emails in your settings.
It is the email address of Instagram's DMCA designated agent, for copyright notices. Instagram lists it with the phone number 650.543.4800 and a Menlo Park mailing address, and says its online copyright form is the faster route. It does not handle hacked, disabled or locked accounts.
How do I contact Instagram if I cannot log in?▾
Go to instagram.com/hacked, or tap Forgot password? on the login screen and request a login link. If that fails, request support from a mobile device with a secure email only you can access. Instagram emails the next steps, which can include an identity check: a video selfie, or your sign-up email or phone and device type if the account has no photos of you.
How do I talk to a real person at Instagram?▾
The documented route is Meta Verified: subscribers get human agents by chat and 24/7 email, and Premium and Max plans can request a call. Meta also says humans stay in the loop for appeals of disabled accounts. Outside those, Instagram support is self-serve or AI-assisted.
Can the Meta AI support assistant recover my account?▾
It can guide you through securing a compromised account, explain appeal options and check your account status. In the Help Center you must be logged in to use it, so it helps most while you still have access on some device. In March 2026 Meta said its actions were live on Facebook and planned for Instagram. It does not replace instagram.com/hacked.
Does Meta Verified help if my account is hacked or disabled?▾
Its support covers general access and security issues, but only for an active subscription after verification is complete, and benefits apply only to the subscribed profile. The contact path starts from your verified profile in the app. If you have already lost access, Meta points subscribers to the hacked-account flow.
How long does Instagram support take to reply?▾
Meta publishes no review time for recovery or appeals on the pages we read. Its AI assistant typically answers in under 5 seconds, and Meta Verified support is prioritized, with email around the clock. A Meta Verified case closes if you do not reply within 7 days. Treat any exact promise from a third party as unreliable.
How can I tell if an email from Instagram is real?▾
Open Instagram yourself and check Recent emails in your settings, which lists the official emails sent to you in the last 14 days. Real security emails arrive only at your email address, from the domains Instagram lists, never by Direct Message. If in doubt, do not click: go to the app or type instagram.com.
Is it safe to pay someone to contact Instagram for me?▾
The official process is free, and nobody outside Meta has a private line or can change Meta's decision. Walk away from anyone who guarantees results, claims inside contacts, asks for your password or codes, contacts you first, or wants crypto or gift cards. A legitimate service can only help you prepare for and follow the official steps.
