Facebook account disabled: how to appeal
Log in to Facebook: Meta says a suspended account shows the appeal prompt there, and you have 180 days to appeal, though the window varies by region. Miss it or lose the appeal and the account is permanently disabled, with no further review. Locked is different: open Facebook and select Get started to unlock it.
What you will do
- Read your message: suspended, disabled, locked and limited each have a different route.
- Appeal inside Meta’s 180-day window, with a clear statement and the ID Meta accepts.
- Keep your Pages and ad accounts alive while your profile is down.
- Know what Meta Verified support and the Oversight Board can and cannot do for a disabled account.
- Refuse paid “unban” scams, and know when a free assessment is worth asking for.
Start here in 1 click
Find the message you see, then open Meta’s free route. Every route starts from your own login, on your own device.

Suspended, disabled, locked or limited: the message you see decides the route
Meta uses 4 words for 4 situations, and each has its own route. A suspension can be appealed, a permanently disabled account cannot, a lock is a security check and limited access follows malware. For the first 3, Meta tells you by email or with a message when you log in.

Seeing none of these and simply unable to log in? Meta’s suspended-account page sends other login problems to its troubleshooting pages. A password that suddenly stopped working points to a hack: start at facebook.com/hacked, and read our hacked-account guide.
Source: Facebook Help Center[1][2]Advanced Protection can also cost you access
Some accounts must turn on Advanced Protection: civic figures, accounts in business portfolios that advertise or use monthly invoicing, and accounts connected to Pages or profiles with large followings. Meta says that if you do not complete setup, you may lose access to certain features or to your account. If Facebook asks, create a passkey or turn on two-factor authentication.
Source: Facebook Help CenterYou can often see trouble coming. Account Status, under your profile picture, then Help & support, shows the status of your profile and of the Pages and groups you manage, including Community Standards strikes and restrictions. Check it while you can still log in.

Meta’s current page describes 1 route: log into Facebook and you are prompted to appeal the suspension within 180 days. It links no separate form, and the old disabled-account form address that many guides still give returned a page reading Not Found when we opened it on 19 Oct 2026.

1. Find Meta’s email and note the date
Meta says it tells you by email when it suspends or disables an account. Write the date down: Meta gives 180 days, says the period varies by region, and does not say whether the count starts at the suspension or at the email.
2. Log in on your own phone or computer
Use the Facebook app or facebook.com on a device you normally use. Meta says you are prompted to appeal the suspension when you log in.
3. Follow the appeal prompts
Answer what each screen asks. If Meta asks you to confirm your identity, upload the ID through the on-screen instructions only.
4. Explain it in a few factual lines, if there is a box
Say why you think the decision is wrong and what the account is for. The templates below keep it short.
5. Wait without working around the suspension
Watch your email. Do not open a new account in the meantime: Meta says it disables accounts created to get around its restrictions.
1 appeal, then it is final
Meta says that if you do not appeal within 180 days, or your appeal is not successful, the account is permanently disabled and you will not be able to request another review of the decision. Prepare everything before you submit.
Source: Facebook Help CenterNo Meta page we read states how long a disabled-account review takes. Meta says people continue to play a key role in appeals of account disablement and that it aims to cut the average appeal time.

I am asking you to review the suspension of my account. I have since secured it.] - I use my real name and date of birth on the account and can confirm my identity with [a government ID]. Please restore the account. Thank you for reviewing it.

Use it when someone else used your account before it was suspended.
My account was compromised on or around [date]. Someone else logged in and [posted / sent messages / ran ads] that I did not create. I believe the suspension came from that activity, not from me. What I have done since: [changed my password / logged out unknown devices / turned on two-factor authentication / used facebook.com/hacked on (date)]. I am the owner of this account and can confirm my identity with [a government ID]. Please review the suspension and restore my access.
Why Facebook disables accounts: strikes, severe violations and identity
Meta’s examples are content that breaks the Community Standards, misrepresenting your identity to mislead people or evade enforcement, and contacting people to harass, advertise or promote things that are not allowed. For most violations Meta disables an account only after repeated warnings and restrictions; some violations are severe enough for 1 occurrence.

| 10 or more | A 30-day restriction from creating contentSource: Meta Transparency Center |
From Meta’s Restricting accounts page, updated 12 Nov 2024. For severe policies, such as dangerous individuals and organizations, Meta says longer restrictions on features like creating ads and Facebook Live can start from the first strike.
Meta’s 2 pages give different thresholds
The ladder above comes from Meta’s Restricting accounts page, updated 12 Nov 2024. Its Disabling accounts page, updated 17 Jul 2025, says that after 5 strikes you may receive additional 30-day restrictions or lose the account, depending on the severity and frequency of the violations. Plan for the stricter reading.

If Meta finds that content did follow the Community Standards, it says it restores the content and removes the strike.
Source: Meta Transparency CenterWhat to send with an appeal: the ID Meta accepts, and a short statement
Meta may ask you to confirm your identity during an appeal. It accepts 1 government ID or 2 non-government IDs, rejects blurry or edited photos, and says that sending more documents than necessary may delay the review.
Source: Facebook Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2][3]| Option | What it must show | Examples Meta lists |
|---|---|---|
| 1 government ID | Your name and date of birth, or your name and a photo | Driver’s license, national identity card, passport, birth certificateSource: Facebook Help Center |
| 2 non-government IDs, if you have no government ID | Your name on both, at least 1 with your date of birth or photo, and the same name as on your profile | Student card, library card, refugee card, employment verification, diploma, loyalty cardSource: Facebook Help Center[1][2] |
| Lost access to the account | Meta may ask for an item that also shows a photo or a date of birth matching the details on your Facebook account | Any item from the rows aboveSource: Facebook Help Center |
Why Meta rejects ID photos
Meta lists 5 reasons: the photo is blurry, not well lit, missing required information, a picture of a screenshot or a photocopied ID, or not fully in the frame. Take a close-up photo of the original in a well-lit room, and send only the documents Meta asks for.
Source: Facebook Help Center[1][2]- Upload an ID only through the on-screen instructions in Facebook. Never email or message an ID to someone who contacted you.Source: Facebook Help Center
- You may physically cover numbers Meta does not need, such as an ID number, before you take the photo. Meta does not accept photos edited digitally to hide information.Source: Facebook Help Center
- Delete the ID photo from your phone’s gallery once the upload is done. Meta suggests it for security, and says it tells you how long it will store an ID before you send it.Source: Facebook Help Center
What to leave out of your statement
- Threats, insults or demands. A calm, factual statement is easier to review.
- Your password or any login code. An appeal never needs them, and Meta says its representatives never ask for them.Source: Meta Business Help Center
- Documents Meta did not ask for. Meta says extra documents may delay the review.Source: Facebook Help Center
- Claims you cannot support, such as calling the account hacked when it was not.

What happens to your Pages, ads and Meta Verified while the account is down
A suspended or disabled profile is hidden and unusable, and the Pages and ad accounts that depend on it can go down with it. What survives depends on whether someone else has full control of the Page and whether anyone else is on the ad account.
Source: Facebook Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2]; Meta Business Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026Pages
Meta says Pages are automatically deactivated if they no longer have at least 1 person with Facebook access with full control. A deactivated Page is hidden from the public, including its followers, and cannot be edited, but it is not deleted. If another person still has full control, the Page does not depend on your profile.
Source: Facebook Help Center- Back in your account? Reactivate the Page from your personal profile: Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Reactivate a Page below Your activity. Meta says a Page cannot be reactivated from its business settings.Source: Facebook Help Center
- Profile gone for good? Meta says that when a Page was deactivated because the last person with full control no longer has an active Facebook account, you can submit a Page admin dispute.Source: Facebook Help Center
- A Page admin dispute needs 3 documents: an ID, a signed attestation letter and an ownership document, sent through a chat in Meta Business Support Home. Its listed cases (former employees, deceased admins, admins who removed themselves, location Pages, court orders) do not name a disabled admin.Source: Meta Business Help Center
Ad accounts and the business portfolio
Meta says that if a personal profile is restricted from advertising, that person cannot advertise or create new ads, and any ad accounts where they are the only attached user may also be disabled. Other members of the business portfolio, ad account or Page may still be able to advertise. A restricted business portfolio cannot advertise at all.
Source: Meta Business Help CenterThe 6-month rule for disabled ad accounts
Meta says that if an ad account is disabled for a policy violation and stays ineligible for reinstatement for 6 months, any unused prepaid services may be forfeited where the law allows, and the account can no longer be reinstated. To request a review, you must be an admin on the account.
Source: Meta Business Help Center[1][2]Note to your Page co-admins and business partners

My Facebook profile was [suspended / disabled] on [date] and I have appealed. While it is down: - Please keep full control of [Page name] so the Page stays active. - If you are an admin on [ad account / business portfolio], check Meta Business Support Home for restrictions and requests for review. - Please do not create a new profile or account for me. Meta disables accounts created to get around its restrictions. - I will never ask you for your password or a login code.
Meta Verified
Meta Verified subscribers get chat support in the mobile app, email support around the clock and, on higher plans, phone support, and Meta lists general profile access among the issues covered. But Meta says a subscription is revoked when the verified account violates its policies, and revocation immediately ends all benefits, including support and open cases.
Source: Facebook Help Center[1][2]The Oversight Board, the EU form and other routes: what they can and cannot do
Once Meta’s own appeal is used up, few doors remain. The Oversight Board reviews content decisions, not your account, and needs an account that is not disabled. Meta has no public phone line. In the EU, Meta links a form that routes you to support.

In June 2026 the Oversight Board published its first case assessing the permanent disabling of a user’s account. It came as a referral from Meta, which the Board describes as piloting an extension of its mandate beyond individual content decisions, not as an appeal a user filed.
Source: Oversight BoardContent removed, account still active? That route is open
If Meta removed a post rather than your account, request a review in the app first. Meta says that if it has reviewed the content twice and you still disagree, you may be eligible to appeal to the Oversight Board with the reference number Meta gives you, within 15 days of the decision. Meta adds that not all content decisions are eligible.

FAQ
Disabled Facebook account questions, answered
How long do I have to appeal a disabled Facebook account?▾
Meta says you can appeal a suspension within 180 days and that the time period varies by region. If you do not appeal within 180 days, or the appeal is not successful, Meta permanently disables the account. Start by logging in: Meta says that is where you are prompted to appeal.
Can I appeal again after Facebook rejects my appeal?▾
No. Meta says that if your appeal is not successful, the account is permanently disabled and you will not be able to request another review of the decision. That is why the first appeal should be complete, calm and accurate, with the ID Meta asks for if it asks.
What is the difference between a suspended and a disabled Facebook account?▾
A suspension is the stage you can appeal: Meta gives 180 days. Disabled is permanent: it follows a missed window or a failed appeal, or comes straight away for severe or time-sensitive violations. Both hide the account from everyone and stop you from using it.
Is there a form to appeal a disabled Facebook account?▾
Meta’s current page links no form: it says to log into Facebook, where you are prompted to appeal. The old disabled-account form address that many guides still share returned a page reading Not Found when we opened it, logged out, on 19 Oct 2026.
Can Meta Verified help me get a disabled account back?▾
Meta does not say it can. Meta Verified support covers general profile access issues for active subscribers, but Meta says a subscription is revoked when the verified account violates its policies, and that revocation immediately ends its benefits, including support and any open support cases.
Can the Oversight Board restore my disabled account?▾
Not through an appeal you file. The Board says it reviews content decisions, that you need an active account that is not disabled, and that appeals need a reference ID and a decision from the last 15 days. Its first case on a permanently disabled account, published in June 2026, came as a referral from Meta.
What ID does Facebook accept for an appeal?▾
Meta accepts 1 government ID that shows your name with your date of birth or a photo, such as a passport, driver’s license or national identity card. Without 1, send 2 non-government IDs, both with your name and at least 1 with your date of birth or photo. Upload them only through the on-screen instructions.
What happens to my Facebook Page if my account is disabled?▾
Meta says Pages are automatically deactivated when they no longer have at least 1 person with full control. If someone else has full control, the Page can stay up. If yours was the last profile with full control, Meta points to a Page admin dispute, which needs an ID, a signed attestation letter and an ownership document.
How long does a Facebook appeal take?▾
No Meta page we read states a review time for disabled-account appeals. Meta says people continue to play a key role in appeals of account disablement, that it aims to cut the average appeal time, and that appeals now take fewer steps for eligible cases. Treat an exact promise from anyone else as unreliable.
Should I make a new Facebook account while I wait?▾
No. Meta says it disables accounts created to get around its restrictions, so a new account can be disabled too. Ask a trusted co-admin with full control to keep your Pages running, and wait for the outcome of your appeal.
