Facebook verification

How to get verified on Facebook

Facebook has 3 types of verified badge. The free gray badge shows a real person is behind a profile and is not yet available to everyone. The blue badge comes from Meta Verified ($11.99 a month on the web in most regions for a profile, $14.99 for a business Page) or a free request for notable people and brands.

See every source.

What you will do

  • Tell the 3 types of Facebook badge apart and pick the 1 that fits you.
  • Decide whether to verify a profile or a Page, because that decides the product.
  • Subscribe to Meta Verified in the Facebook app, step by step, with the name and ID rules.
  • Prepare the free notable request the way Meta documents it, with a copy-ready worksheet.
  • Fix the causes Meta lists for denials, and know what the badge does not do.

Facebook has 3 types of verified badge, each with its own route and rules

The lookalike: business verification in Security Center

Verifying a business in Meta Business Suite unlocks some advertising, developer, billing and spending features. Meta says it is different from Meta Verified and will not give you a verified badge, and a decision can take up to 14 business days.

Meta says accounts verified under earlier rules see no immediate change while it tests the new system, and that a Page or profile with an existing badge can still subscribe to Meta Verified for the extra features.

Profile or Page: what you verify decides which product applies

Facebook says profiles are for individual use and that a business, organization or idea gets a Page. Meta Verified for creators covers profiles, Meta Verified for business covers Pages, and the notable badge covers both.

Stage names and Meta Verified

Facebook lets you list another name, such as a professional name, on the profile. Meta Verified still wants the profile name to match the legal name on your ID, unless Meta finds you eligible for a different name, which it says is not available to everyone. Settle this before you pay.

How to subscribe a Facebook profile to Meta Verified (Facebook app, iPhone)

  1. 1. Open Meta Verified from your Meta account

Open the Facebook app, tap Menu at the top left, then Options. Tap Go to Meta Account, then Meta Verified.

  2. 2. Choose the profile and the plan

Select the profile to verify, then Single profile subscription. Meta says verifying 2 profiles, 1 on Facebook and 1 on Instagram, gets a discounted price.

  3. 3. Pay

Tap Pay now and confirm through the Apple App Store. On the web, Standard costs $11.99 a month in most regions instead of $14.99.

  4. 4. Turn on two-factor authentication

Select a security method on the screen, tap Next and follow the instructions.

  5. 5. Confirm or edit the name and picture

Check that the name matches your ID. Meta warns that changing the name or picture after you are verified may mean verifying again.

  6. 6. Upload your ID, front and back

Select the ID type, photograph the front and then the back, check that the text is readable, then tap Submit and Finish.

  7. 7. Finish within 3 days, then wait

If you do not complete verification within 3 days of starting, Meta cancels the subscription and you are eligible for a refund. Meta sends its decision within 3 business days.

For a business Page

A Page uses Meta Verified for business. In the Facebook app, tap your profile picture at the bottom right, open the Page, tap the menu below its profile picture, then Meta Verified, Sign up now and Next. You need full control of the Page’s business portfolio and advanced protection on for everyone with access to it. Our Instagram business verification guide walks through the methods and documents, which are the same for Pages.

What a Facebook badge does not do

Facebook says the badge confirms an authentic presence. It does not verify posts, does not endorse anyone and does not move to another account.

Source: Facebook Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026

Not a content check

Posts, stories and other content from verified Pages and profiles are not verified by Facebook.

Source: Facebook Help Center

Not an endorsement

Facebook says it does not use the badge to endorse or recognize individuals, public figures or brands.

Not portable

A verified Page or profile cannot transfer ownership or modify its purpose, and an Instagram badge does not verify Facebook.

Not a reach boost

Meta publishes no reach figures for Meta Verified, and its 2021 creator post said being verified does not mean your content is favored by its systems.

Not permanent on a paid plan

Cancel a Page subscription and the badge goes at the end of the billing cycle; a revoked subscription loses its benefits at once.

Not a security setting

Meta encourages admins of verified Pages and profiles to use two-factor authentication, and its 2021 post warned that hackers target verified accounts to sell the badge.

Paid help with Facebook verification: what is honest

You can do every route on this page yourself, and Meta makes every decision. Nobody can apply in your place: Meta Verified needs your own ID, and a Page needs someone with full control of its business portfolio.

FAQ

Facebook verification: questions people ask

How do I get the blue check on Facebook?▾

Subscribe to Meta Verified in the Facebook app or on the web with a government ID that matches your profile name, or, for a business Page, through Meta Verified for business. Notable public figures, brands and entities can request the blue badge free instead. Meta decides on Meta Verified within 3 business days (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

What is the gray Verified badge on Facebook?▾

It is Facebook Verified, a free badge that shows a real person is behind a profile. Meta verifies it from activity across Facebook and other information you provide, and it can show on Marketplace, Groups, Facebook Dating and the profile. Meta says it is not yet available to all users, and it needs no notability or subscription (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

How much does Facebook verification cost?▾

The gray Facebook Verified badge and the notable badge are free. Meta Verified for a profile costs $14.99 a month in the app or $11.99 on the web in most regions for Standard, up to $499.99 for Max. A business Page starts at $14.99 a month, and a Page plus Instagram saves 20% (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

Can I verify my Facebook Page for free?▾

Only if it qualifies for the notable badge: the Page must be authentic, unique, complete with an about section, a photo and recent posts, and notable, meaning featured in multiple news sources, with paid or promotional content not counted. Otherwise a Page gets the blue badge through Meta Verified for business, from $14.99 a month (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

How do I request the notable badge on Facebook?▾

Meta’s help page on badge types links the request to a Meta for Business form that asks you to log in. Meta does not publish the form’s fields; its 2021 creator post said you can describe your audience and region and add up to 5 news articles. Older form addresses returned Not Found when we checked on 19 Oct 2026.

How many news articles do I need for Facebook verification?▾

Meta does not set a number. It reviews Pages and profiles featured in multiple news sources and does not consider paid or promotional content. Its 2021 creator post said the request form takes up to 5 articles, so collect your strongest independent articles mainly about you, with outlet and date.

Does my Instagram badge carry over to Facebook?▾

No. Instagram says verifying an account on Instagram does not verify it on Facebook, and that a verified Facebook Page still has to apply separately on Instagram. Meta Verified for creators can cover 1 Instagram and 1 Facebook profile in the same Meta account, each verified through the subscription.

Why was my Facebook verification request denied?▾

Meta lists the causes without ranking them. For the notable badge: not enough independent news coverage, an incomplete or duplicate Page, or a general interest Page. For Meta Verified: a name that does not match the ID, a refused name format, an unreadable or expired ID, or verification not finished within 3 days.

Can I change my name after getting verified on Facebook?▾

Yes, within limits. On Meta Verified a Facebook profile name can change once every 60 days, each change is reviewed, and it must stay similar to your original name and your ID. Facebook also reviews name, category and bio edits on verified Pages and profiles, and an ownership transfer can cost the badge.

Can someone sell me a Facebook blue check?▾

No one but Meta sells Meta Verified, and it does so inside its own apps, its website and Meta Business Suite; the notable badge is free. Meta can remove verification for false information, and its 2021 post said it acts against people who sell verified accounts. Treat any other seller of a badge as a scam.
