Instagram verification for businesses

How to get a business verified on Instagram

To get a business verified on Instagram, subscribe its professional account to Meta Verified for business, from $14.99 a month per account at Meta's US dollar list price, using a business portfolio you fully control with Advanced Protection on, then pass a review of up to 3 business days. Well-known brands can also request the free badge.

See every source.

What you will do

  • Clear the 4 sign-up blockers Meta lists before you pay anything.
  • Subscribe and verify in the Instagram app or Meta Business Suite, step by step.

Verified on Facebook already? Instagram is separate

Instagram says a verified Facebook Page does not carry its badge across: you still apply separately on Instagram. Meanwhile it suggests linking to your Instagram profile from the official Facebook Page so people can tell it is really you.

Clear the 4 sign-up blockers Meta lists before you pay

Meta says that if any of these 4 requirements is missing, the Meta Verified sign-up option does not appear for your business at all. Check all 4 before you look for the button.

Source: Meta Business Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026
The 4 requirements and how to check each one
A complete business profileBusiness name, category and contact information filled in on each Instagram professional profile or Facebook Page, plus a profile pictureEdit the Instagram profile: name, category, contact options, picture. Do the same on the Facebook Page if you bundle it
Full control of a business portfolioYou need full control of an existing portfolio in Meta Business Suite. If you do not have it, ask the owner to grant it or create a portfolioIn Meta Business Suite, open the portfolio settings and look at the access level next to your name
An eligible asset in that portfolioAt least 1 Instagram professional business profile or Facebook business Page; incomplete or restricted assets may not qualifyConnect the Instagram account to the portfolio and clear any restriction notices first
Advanced protection for everyone with accessEvery person with access to the portfolio must turn it on. If even 1 person has not, the option does not appearAsk each person on the access list to turn it on, then allow up to 24 hours for the change to show
Source: Meta Business Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026[1][2]

2 limits sit outside your control: Meta Verified is offered in selected regions only, and Meta picks the plans you see from business activity such as profile visits and post engagement. A waitlist instead of a sign-up button means your assets may still miss required information, and joining it does not mean early access.

The name rule for trade names and brand names

Meta wants the profile name to closely match the name on a government ID. Its own example: for “Annie Smith’s Flowers”, the ID should show Annie or Smith. A trade name, DBA or brand name that differs from your legal name may be rejected, and a 1-word legal name may not work because Meta needs a first and a last name. If a later name change is refused, Meta suggests updating the legal name of the business portfolio in Meta Business Suite.

Source: Meta Business Help Center[1][2]
Name formats Meta accepts and refuses
Abbreviations (Sid for Siddharth)Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeated characters or punctuation
Spelling variations (Maria and Marya)Characters from more than 1 language
First initials (LM for Lisa Marie)Certain titles, such as religious titles
Compound names (Mary and Mary-Lou)Offensive or suggestive words of any kindSource: Meta Business Help Center

Bundling an Instagram account with a Facebook Page or a WhatsApp number? Each asset may need a similar name and picture. You can verify up to 2 assets from the same portfolio, or up to 3 from the Facebook app or Meta Business Suite on a computer.

The free notable request: when a brand should apply instead of paying

Instagram still verifies notable public figures, celebrities and brands for free. The request asks for a full name and an ID or official business documents, and the decision turns on whether multiple news sources have covered the brand.

How to request the free badge for a brand account (Instagram app, iPhone)

  1. 1. Log in to the brand account

Make sure you are logged in to the account you want the badge for. The request is not available on a computer.

Paid placements do not count, including ours

Essentras sells media placements in a catalog of 3,800+ outlets. They are paid media, and Instagram does not consider paid or sponsored media content as sources for review, so we never present them as a way to qualify for the free badge. Earned coverage is what the rule describes: our press coverage guide covers the pitching routes.

What the verified badge does not do for a business

Instagram says the badge confirms an authentic presence. It is not a symbol of importance, authority or expertise, and it endorses no one. Here is what a business does not get.

Source: Instagram Help Center, read 19 Oct 2026

No reach figures

Meta lists search optimization and, from Business Plus up, a featured profile, but publishes no reach numbers. The quotes on its plans page that mention more reach are customer anecdotes.

Source: Meta for Business

No ads or developer access

Those come from business verification in Security Center, a separate process that gives no badge and can take up to 14 business days.

Source: Meta Business Help Center

No benefits on other accounts

Benefits, support included, apply only to the subscribed Page, account or number. Threads and Messenger show the badge but not the extra benefits yet.

Source: Meta for Business

No free rebrands

Name edits are limited to 2 every 14 days on Instagram and 1 every 60 days on Facebook, and each change is reviewed against the portfolio’s legal name.

Source: Meta Business Help Center

No badge after you stop paying

Cancel and the plan runs to the end of the billing cycle. Then every subscribed asset loses verification and support, open cases included.

Source: Meta Business Help Center

No shield from revocation

A revoked subscription loses its benefits immediately. Meta lists a failed payment with no backup, policy violations, rejected profile edits, moving to an unavailable region and plan changes made in the app stores. Switching the account from business to personal revokes it after 7 days or at the end of the cycle, whichever comes first.

Third parties and badge sellers

  • Instagram can remove a badge, and may disable the account, if you advertise, transfer or sell it, or if you attempt to verify the account through a third party.Source: Instagram Help Center
  • Meta may block or remove verification if you give false information or try to verify a business you are not authorized to represent.Source: Meta Business Help Center
  • Only Meta sells the subscription. An offer of a badge, an inside contact or a faster review is not a Meta route.

Denied, stuck or revoked: the fix for each case

Meta does not rank its rejection causes, so this table does not either. Find the symptom, apply the fix Meta documents, then try again.

FAQ

Instagram business verification: questions people ask

How do I get my business verified on Instagram?▾

Subscribe the Instagram professional account to Meta Verified for business from Meta Business Suite or the Instagram app. You need full control of the business portfolio, advanced protection on for everyone with access, a complete profile and a name that matches your ID or business records. Meta replies within 3 business days. Well-known brands can request the free badge instead (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

How much does it cost to verify a business on Instagram?▾

Meta lists Business Standard at $14.99 a month, Plus at $49.99, Premium at $149.99 and Max at $499.99, each per Instagram account, Facebook Page or WhatsApp number. Subscribing Facebook and Instagram together saves 20%, and Business Standard bought on desktop in New Zealand is $11.99. The free notable request has no fee (Meta, checked 19 Oct 2026).

Can a business get the blue check on Instagram for free?▾

Yes, if the brand is notable. Instagram verifies public figures, celebrities and brands that are authentic, unique, complete and notable, meaning featured in multiple news sources, and it does not count paid or sponsored media. You request it in the Instagram app and hear back in Activity within 30 days; after a denial you can ask again in 30 days.

What documents does Meta ask a business for?▾

It depends on the method you pick. Meta may match your business details against a public record, ask for an official document when no record matches, ask for photos of a valid government photo ID front and back, ask you to log in to the business bank account, or verify you from your history on Meta. You then confirm by email, text, phone call, ID or domain.

Why can't I see the Meta Verified option for my business?▾

Meta says the option stays hidden until all 4 requirements are met: a complete business profile with a picture, full control of a business portfolio, an eligible asset in that portfolio, and advanced protection on for every person with access. Changes can take up to 24 hours to show. A waitlist button means an asset may still be missing information.

Can I verify a business whose brand name differs from my ID?▾

It may be refused. Meta says the profile name must closely match the name on your government ID and that a trade name, DBA or brand name that differs may be rejected. Meta also offers methods that check the business itself, such as business details matched to a public record or an official document, but whether your brand name passes is Meta’s call.

Does business verification in Meta Business Suite give a blue badge?▾

No. Meta says verifying your business in Meta Business Suite is different from Meta Verified for businesses and will not give you a verified badge. It unlocks some advertising, developer, billing and spending features, and a decision can take up to 14 business days. The badge comes only from Meta Verified or the free notable request.

Can someone verify my business account for me?▾

Not by applying in your place. Instagram lists attempting to verify an account through a third party among the reasons it can remove a badge or disable the account, and Meta Verified needs someone with full control of your business portfolio. A helper can check eligibility and prepare your documents; the application should come from your own account.
